Sadly, to most Americans it is just a day to observe hamburgers on a grill.
Memorial Day is NOT the day to recognize veterans for their service.
That’s what Veterans Day is for.
And DON’T go round wishing people a “Happy Memorial Day” as Trump did earlier.
God bless them! No greater love hath a man, than he lay down his life for another.
Memorial Day is NOT the day to recognize veterans for their service.
Maybe so, but it does serve to remind us of the many men and women who have served and are serving, therefore, I honor them ALL today.
It was a Civil War memorial day remembrance. And back then they had no PTSD. It was called “The Soldiers Heart” at that time.
“...Sadly, to most Americans it is just a day to observe hamburgers on a grill....”
Yep.
The wife and I attended our local veterans-sponsored Memorial Day service this morning. There were maybe a hundred or so folks in attendance. The guest speaker called us out by age group to prove a point. There were no attendees under the age of 35 present. NONE!!! Those in attendence were all middle-aged or elderly white, Christian couples. Says a lot about how our democgraphics, and attitude, have radically changed in such a short time...
Add: And it was first called “Decoration Day” when flags were put on soldier’s graves.
My grandfather decorated all Veterans graves in Oswego County New York for 50 years. When young my brother and I helped. Gramp taught us to respect Veterans.
We just returned from a Memorial Day observance at our local church, it was nicely done. We all went out and put flags on veteran’s gravesides.
Nice
