Not Canada, not Greenland, not Gaza. It’s one that almost no one has thought of.
If you believe President Trump, America is in an expansionist mood. Locations from Greenland to Gaza have been mentioned as potential new territories for American acquisition and stewardship. Is this merely talk, or can any of these areas be acquired or persuaded to change allegiance to become the 51st state?
The two most obvious candidates are the District of Columbia and the Territory of Puerto Rico. The problem with the District becoming the 51st state is that it was established by the U. S. Constitution. Thus, an amendment to the Constitution would be required to change its status.

In the absence of a popular revolt, this would require military action. One obstacle is thought to be President Kennedy’s 1962 pledge not to invade Cuba in exchange for the removal of Soviet missiles from the island. However, he later recanted, using the Rio Pact as an excuse. So the agreement never became a signed treaty. The agreement was also made with the Soviet Union, a nation that no longer exists.
In response to Cuba’s economic plight, its president, Miguel Diaz-Canel, said, “We will make more Revolution and more Socialism.”
Perfect. Load up on that revolution, Miguel. I can see a flag with fifty-one stars waving on the horizon.

I think that if these states that wanted to be looter states found that they would also be looted by a country worse than their state then they would pucker up and reconsider. If not then so be it.
That is the correct act with good precedent. And do it to be effective January 1, 2029. Why then? In time for the 2030 census with a little carryover. Their delegate to congress can go be a delegate to the State on that date & figure out the transition with the State. Arlington & Alexandria did it and so can they.
No. PR is a cesspool.
DC is even worse.
DC and Puerto Rico as States, means 4 more Democrat Senators in perpetuity.
Make large metropolitan areas into mini States with only 1 Senator. LA/SF/SD would get one Senator, the rest of the State gets 2. Seattle/Tacoma/Renton/Bellevue gets one Senator, WA state gets 2 with no votes from the metro areas... Rinse and repeat. Boise in Idaho gets 1 Senator, the rest of Idaho gets 2 Senators.
JFK should have been more forceful to call off the The Bay of Pigs invasion. The Cuban exiles were going to need more support and it would have required our Green Berets on the ground to pull it off.
The CIA attempted to manipulate him into ordering the invasion with American support. Finally, JFK stood up to them. It was not even 100 days into his administration so they tried to take advantage of his inexperience.
Seriously, a US planned invasion of Cuba was doomed from the start. Anyone remember the number of military excursions we won since WW 2? A draw in Korea, followed by Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq twice and that little Island we actually had a win.

The problem with the District becoming the 51st state is that it isn't big enough to be a state. It's only 61 square miles of land.

The District of Columbia should be returned to the original 2 states from which it was formed. What the Federal Government owns will be no different than in any other city or state. By doing this, the Feds could get rid of the leaches in DC government and let Virginia and Maryland have them to deal with.
Wow. I’d like see traction on that!
