Not Canada, not Greenland, not Gaza. It’s one that almost no one has thought of.
If you believe President Trump, America is in an expansionist mood. Locations from Greenland to Gaza have been mentioned as potential new territories for American acquisition and stewardship. Is this merely talk, or can any of these areas be acquired or persuaded to change allegiance to become the 51st state?
The two most obvious candidates are the District of Columbia and the Territory of Puerto Rico. The problem with the District becoming the 51st state is that it was established by the U. S. Constitution. Thus, an amendment to the Constitution would be required to change its status.

In the absence of a popular revolt, this would require military action. One obstacle is thought to be President Kennedy’s 1962 pledge not to invade Cuba in exchange for the removal of Soviet missiles from the island. However, he later recanted, using the Rio Pact as an excuse. So the agreement never became a signed treaty. The agreement was also made with the Soviet Union, a nation that no longer exists.
In response to Cuba’s economic plight, its president, Miguel Diaz-Canel, said, “We will make more Revolution and more Socialism.”
Perfect. Load up on that revolution, Miguel. I can see a flag with fifty-one stars waving on the horizon.

Give Cuba territorial rights only.
And Cuban citizens have developed a strong hatred for communism and everything on the left.
Give it to Hyman, require 10% tribute on all income.

Great, that way the Democrats aka Demoncrats will have eternal control of all future US elections.
I’m fine with keeping it at 50 states. Maybe even downsize a little, say, throw out California. Maybe more. Even Illinois, where I’m at…
Outside of democrats delusions how can DC even be considered a candidate for statehood ?
Keep Illinois, eject Chicago.
Likewise New York and New York. { snicker }
I think we should invade California and make it part of the United States.
Their people must be tired of socialist policies, high taxes, and freedom robbing restrictions. Apparently California leadership is also trying to make itself a part of Mexico, we should get started right away.
While we’re at it, there’s some other places here in North America that seem to be posturing to become part of the old Soviet Union and even some that seem to be creating the fictional Wakanda. I hope we can save these people too.
If the CIA could be counted upon, it would probably be easy to engineer regime change. Wasn’t it the CIA who screwed up the Bay of Pigs invasion? On purpose?
JFK screwed that one up.
Not only no, but hell no.
Take all the small Northeastern states that are the size of a Texas county and combine them.
Fuggedabouttit ... WDC is a Constitutionally established place that would take a Constitutional amendment to change and that isn’t about to happen in today’s political environment.
PR would be another ‘taker’ state contributing little to the benefit of the country while absorbing huge amounts of welfare.
Only if we can send their residents to Libya along with the Palestinians.
Without the CIA, we’d have had conservative government in the US over the past 50 years.
Actually—both the CIA and JFK were to blame for that fiasco.
The CIA thought they could force JFK to do what he did not want to do by giving him a stark choice—full commitment of US military support or defeat.
That was a gamble on their part—and they lost the gamble.
JFK probably made the wrong call so he gets his half of the blame.
(Obviously in an ideal world these issues would be resolved before the invasion, not during... lol.)
Excellent post—I blame the CIA for LBJ as well...
Okay, 60 years.
Wouldn’t it require a Constitutional Amendment to annex the District of Columbia?
Or would they just ignore it like they always do?
