Memorial Day brings together people from all political persuasions in remembrance and celebration of dead American soldiers. Libertarians, however, should reject a holiday that consecrates and immortalizes the names and lives of those who sacrificed themselves in unnecessary wars.
The National Memorial Day was originally a national day of prayer for peace. Prior to President Richard Nixon’s declaration, there were many regional memorial days established and spontaneously practiced for a similar purpose. Unfortunately, it has become less about ending wars and more about worshipping conflict.

Let me share with you that the true old school Libertarians believed that it was not the kid’s fault they got hooked into giving their lives for sadistic greedy political fetishes. The kids who paid the ultimate sacrifice absolutely should indeed be respected and remembered because it was not at all their fault.

People have been racist or xenophobic for millennia.
Germany didn’t come together until long after the Brits established colonies all over the world including Fiji where they thought so little of the locals they imported people from India who today are the majority.
Whenever I take that “Where Are You on the Political Spectrum” I turn up deep in libertarian territory, with slight Republican leanings. Then I listen to a “real” libertarian talk, and I end up back with the good ol’ GOP. At least they aren’t completely Loony Tunes, (most of the time). The libertarians are their own worst enemy.

That’s one guy who’s lucky he hasn’t said that my face. Memorial Day is the one day of the year that our nation allegedly remembers our men - and lately some women - who lost their lives fighting our country’s and civilization’s enemies.
To some of you, Memorial Day if a three-day weekend, a day for cookouts. For those of us who served with them, and their families, it’s a day of prayer and remembering. We know what they were, who they were, and saw them die.
The Libertarian who spouted this crap has the right to say anything he would like to - we fought for those rights and many of us died for those rights. But I reserve the right to let him know - physically - how scummy his ingratitude really is.
