OSLO, Norway (AP) — A Norwegian man awoke to find that a cargo ship had run aground and narrowly missed crashing into his home along the Trondheim Fjord’s coast.
Johan Helberg told Norwegian broadcaster NRK that he’d slept through the whole thing and only woke up when a neighbor started ringing his doorbell.
Images show the ship’s red and green bow just meters (yards) from Helberg’s house. He told NRK the only damage was to a heating pump’s wire.
Authorities say they received reports that the NCL Salten had run aground shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
That was a close call.
OOOF DA!
This Captain belongs on their cruise fleet — NCL.
He was pining for the fjords.
It wound up in his yard. Doesn’t he get Dibs?
“It followed me home. Can I keep it?”
That reminds me to check my home insurance for such coverage.
“I wondered what the dog was barking at”.
The library at my college was involved in a car accident. Rumor has it that it was an epileptic seizure.
I guess it never occurred to the Skipper of that run aground vessel, to send somebody to the private home they nearly hit, just to check on any people inside.
Maybe they ‘Don’ Speak-a-Norweigian”.
In this case, even hand signals would have worked.
He woke up to find that his ship had finally come in.
That doesn't happen often. Did the library have the epileptic seizure, or the car?
Growing up less than a mile from a Great Lakes freighter shipping channel, I had frequent dreams one would crash into our dock. Of course the 26’ draught would have prevented it. Of all things a freighter DID run aground outside the channel after I moved away.
I hear the captain will be charged with felony Salten!!
Can they haul that out without any danger to the house?
Did he at least blow his freakin horn?!
I can picture the captain sounding the fog horn and the sleeping homeowner going thru the ceiling…
Oh the time will come up
When the winds will stop
And the breeze will cease to be breathin’
Like the stillness in the wind
’Fore the hurricane begins
The hour when the ship comes in
Oh the seas will split
And the ship will hit
And the sands on the shoreline will be shaking
Then the tide will sound
And the wind will pound
And the morning will be breaking
Oh the fishes will laugh
As they swim out of the path
And the seagulls they’ll be smiling
And the rocks on the sand
Will proudly stand
The hour that the ship comes in
— Bob Dylan
Hahahahaha!
