Caitlin Clark says it was too loud to hear alleged racial comments but supports WNBA investigation

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark says it was too loud inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse for her to hear racial comments from fans directed at Angel Reese during Saturday’s season-opening 93-58 victory over the Chicago Sky and that she supports the WNBA’s investigation.

A person familiar with the situation confirmed the details to The Associated Press on Sunday on condition of anonymity because the league had not publicly identified the subject of the taunts or who made the allegations.

Reese, who is Black, and Clark, who is white, met for the seventh time in their ongoing — and much-talked-about — rivalry. Clark won the league’s Rookie of the Year Award last season with Reese finishing second.

Clark spoke for the first time publicly about the allegations Monday after practice. Indiana hosts Atlanta on Tuesday night.

“It’s super loud in here, and though I didn’t hear anything, I think that’s why they’re doing the investigation,” Clark said. “That’s why they’re looking into it. That doesn’t mean nothing happened, so I’ll just trust the league’s investigation, and I’m sure they’ll do the right thing.”

Both teams also have issued statements supporting the investigation and so has the WNBA Players Union.

Everyone carries a camera phone yet there are never any videos of these racial slurs.

Dave Pourtnoy was at the game. He said that he didn't hear anything.

So it was fake news.

Back in the day as kid, I loved women’s roller derby.

It looks like it might have evolved into the WNBA.

Anyways, I’m NOT lovin’ it.

The NBA got Magic Johnson & Larry Bird in the 80’s and Jordan in the 90’s. Before that they had stars but the league was struggling.

I try to tell the young guys now, I know they have stars but its not the same. The NBA is struggling. The product is boring and its starting to lose ground.

Yep, golf has always had stars, but Tiger brought in everybody, all kinds of new fans and it was a big boost. Golf is getting boring again.

Since Mike Tyson left boxing, most people couldn’t tell you who was the heavyweight champ. Heck, I don’t know either and I am not going to cheat and look it up cause I no longer care.

MMA took over and boxing is all but dead.

Caitlin Clark Teammate Named in Bombshell Accusation in Lawsuit Against Phoenix Suns

The WNBA is like a new toy.

The players in the NBA are entitled. Especially since they've played ball through the AAU.

Previously, they were hungry. They had to hustle to make it to the NBA.

Basically, it's LeBron or all the Europeans like Doncic or Jokic.

Indiana with Clark are playing together as a Team this year

I noticed that, and her teammates are sticking up for her, that big girl Boston is trying to protect her.

“ Golf is getting boring again.”

There are several reasons for this. Most of today’s PGA Tour announcers are boring. Players hit the ball so far that they go right by what used to be an actual hazard. Many of the players that the media loved to belittle, but have personality, went to LIV, which I find unwatchable, though it might be fun in person.

The creation of “signature events“ which are really just no-cut events totally rig World Golf rankings. I hope the PGA tour and LIV find a way to come together and that the all no-cut events are ended.

All sports are suffering because of the lack of star power.

People are so desperate for big names in sports, probably the most notable event of the year was Mike Tyson’s fight.

The closest thing we have right now is Ohtani. He's popular in Los Angeles and really huge in Japan.

That's about it.

Go Fever! That corn-fed white girl from Iowa is a pretty good bb player. I don’t know if that’s racist or not.

The stars used to have personality. Don't see that nowadays.

Gawd this is ridiculous - the WNBA is investigating the fans! As if the WNBA can take losing more of the very few fans it has.

They do those “events” to try to drum up more support. It might work temporarily but it is watering down the sport. They desperately need a new Superstar with charisma.

Ladies golf is even worse with all Asians all the time for some time now. I am not for banning them but its killed any buzz for the LPGA and they really have never had much buzz to begin with.

Yep. I never had heard of Caitlin Clark till she went into the WNBA. Then she was everywhere. Stadiums selling out and her team sucked. This year, she is even bigger. A lot of jealousy last year. Some of the women see that she can help bring in money.

I hear people paying over $500 to see her play. Whatever it is, she has got it...

The current league has stars but other than Nikola Djokic and LeBron James I can’t identify any of them - faceless personality-free basketball machines. And the games are largely get-open-for-the-three and we’ll see what happens. There’s no boxing out and rebounding seems to be an afterthought. And when I hear a pundit waxing poetic about defense I just laugh - defense in the NBA?! Maybe for the last two minutes in a game but otherwise forget it.

Bueckers played out of her mind in the NCAA Tournament. I hope she has great success in the WNBA.
