Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark says it was too loud inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse for her to hear racial comments from fans directed at Angel Reese during Saturday’s season-opening 93-58 victory over the Chicago Sky and that she supports the WNBA’s investigation.
A person familiar with the situation confirmed the details to The Associated Press on Sunday on condition of anonymity because the league had not publicly identified the subject of the taunts or who made the allegations.
Reese, who is Black, and Clark, who is white, met for the seventh time in their ongoing — and much-talked-about — rivalry. Clark won the league’s Rookie of the Year Award last season with Reese finishing second.
Clark spoke for the first time publicly about the allegations Monday after practice. Indiana hosts Atlanta on Tuesday night.
“It’s super loud in here, and though I didn’t hear anything, I think that’s why they’re doing the investigation,” Clark said. “That’s why they’re looking into it. That doesn’t mean nothing happened, so I’ll just trust the league’s investigation, and I’m sure they’ll do the right thing.”
Both teams also have issued statements supporting the investigation and so has the WNBA Players Union.

A handful of ‘urban’ women yelling encouragement at Angel, using the n-word.
That’s why there were no fights in the crowd.
Case closed.
Looks like more fake racism trying to stir up the pot.
She want it to prove her fans did nothing wrong. Watched several videos on this and all show nothing happened. Maybe they’ll find one guy in the back somewhere but most likely a big nothing burger.
Meanwhile her team destroyed the Chicago Sky by over 30 points. Suck up up Angel Reese...
Clark taking the easy way out. Gotta be that white privilege.
More of the league is on board the Clark train this year. They see the money coming in and they are waking up. Her team has improved and destroyed Angel Reese and Chicago. Chicago will be playing them 5 times this year. Could be a long year for Angel.
While Indiana with Clark are playing together as a Team this year, its going to hard to stop them.
Why do people even watch this?
I went to a hockey fight yesterday, and a basketball game broke out.
Why would any straight male watch the WNBA?
Were i Clark, I’d go to Europe. Better competition and more money. Then watch the WNBA’s TV and attendance revenues dry up.
And keep an eye out for rookie Paige Bueckers of Dallas, out of UConn.
She is more athletic than Clark but doesn’t have the long-ball range. She is as exciting to watch as Clark though.
Well, it's clear what news gaslighting propaganda organization is racist against lower case "white(s)".
I am developing a severe case of AP Fatigue.
Spell check will do this too. Trying writing it yourself and see.
Caitlin Clark is a left wing libtard.
Right now, several teams are selling out their games against Clark. Some are even moving the games to bigger venues and still selling out.
I am not a big sports guy, but this is a real thing that could make women’s basketball get a bigger boost it can use. The only thing that can hold them back is to ignore reality and act like Clark is not who they really want to see...
Indiana really improved their team and team dynamic. They worked as a team to destroy Chicago and Angela Reese. When you get beat by 30 in a game that was set to be an even match tells the story...
That's the important thing about having a "star".
Tiger Woods in golf. Mike Tyson in boxing.
As usual.
Everyone carries a camera phone yet there are never any videos of these racial slurs.
