A swarm of bees attacked and killed a terrified man while he was mowing his lawn. Stephen Daniel had been mowing the lawn close to an abandoned building near Friendship Park in Eastland, Texas, on April 27, when he accidentally disturbed a large beehive.
Within moments the bees swarmed Stephen as he raced toward his vehicle. But as he tried to escape, he ended up in Chrishae Cooper's front garden. She watched on as Stephen struggled to fight off the bees and alerted emergency services. Police were then dispatched to the scene in an attempt to save Daniel's life.

Hornets and wasps never bothered me but I fear mad bees.

What an awful way to go
When I’m hiking or hunting here in Arizona, I worry more about bees than about snakes or any other animals. Africanized bees will follow you for as much as a mile, and I simply can’t run a mile in this country, especially not while being stung by lots of bees. I’m always watching and listening for bees, so far so good.

Sadly I can’t find any info on what kind of bees they were. It is known, but they won’t tell us.

If you can buy bear spray for areas frequented by bears, I guess you can carry a can of Raid around in areas where bees and wasps might have hives. I have no idea if that would save you, but at least you could take some of the little insects down with you.

The Terminex guy was there when I moved a rotting landscape tie and tore a paperwasp nest in half. I was swared & they followed me as I ran in circles, into the garage etc. He was crouching at the side of the garage and quietly said “drop to the ground and stop making any noise”. It worked. They continued dive bombing the house and flying around in angry swarms for at least an hour but I stayed low and got into the house.
I had wasps in my hair, in my shirt, too many bites to count. Since that time I have been very cautious because the next single sting I got caused a mild anaphylactic reaction. I had been sensitized.
This has been a public service announcement.
When swarmed by bees/wasps get low and silent.
I got lit up by just 3 or 4 bald faced hornets while mowing my lawn once, couldn’t imagine a whole swarm. Hurt like hell for days. Waited until it was dark and cold that night and shoved a leftover 4th of July smoke bomb into the hole and killed them all. They look like yellow jackets but are black and white not black and yellow.
Was gazing up at a 2nd floor hanging Bald Face Hornet nest. Must have been 25-20 feet horizontal distance. One militant terrorist hornet flew out the bottom of the nest and full speed right at my head and bit a small piece of skin right out of my forehead. That was it. I got three cans of hornet kill spray and crawled out the window closest to it and put an end to all of em. The nest was beautifully crafted 10”-12” long and about 8” diameter. Light gray color. The hornets were a good 1-1/4” long and huge heads about 1/4” diameter. I learned that day that they’re carnivorous, mean bastids.
