An illegal migrant who has lived in the United States for more than 20 years is facing deportation after making a wrong turn into a California military facility.
Ana Camero, 64, took a different route home from her dishwasher job at a La Jolla restaurant on April 7.
After stopping at a gas station, she mistakenly drove onto the Marine Corps Depot in San Diego where she was asked for proper identification, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Unable to provide ID, military officials called Border Patrol and the Mexican native was detained.
'If the individual cannot or does not provide the required identification, the appropriate federal authorities — including U.S. Customs and Border Protection — are notified,' a spokesperson for the Marine Corps Recruit Depot told the Los Angeles Times.
'This protocol applies regardless of whether the individual claims the entry was accidental. As a federal installation, we are mandated to uphold all applicable federal statutes and laws.'
Border Patrol told the outlet that agents may provide assistance to military installations when requested.
'During the course of their assistance and duties, Border Patrol agents may take custody of any individual found present in the United States in violation of applicable federal law and process them accordingly,' the agency said.

If she’s been here for 20 years, by definition, she’s not a migrant. But then, since when do words mean anything anymore?
I don’t know, I was once in the ass end of canada looking for a ferry or something I really do not remember, but I saw something that looked like they might take tolls, but I ended up in a different country with pretty much no other way out except a ferry you have to reserve well in advance.
I did a U turn and the border guard who had watched the whole thing gave me the 3rd degree according to her script but eventually finally let me back into Canada
Fun fact: here in Commiefornia, dishwashers make 20 dollars an hour plus tips. La Jolla is a pretty nice place. She may have been making well over that. Unless she was being paid under the table.
I was telling my liberal brother about a project I was on, and wanted to bait him. I was telling how it was kind of interesting and funny working with the helper that they had provided for me and the language barrier - he only knew a few words. Another guy would interpret. Great worker though.

I am fed up of these heartbreaking stories about “innocent” “hardworking” lovely mother/father figures making wrong turn or getting speeding ticket and getting deported.
They ALL are GUILTY of trespassing!
They all should be deported, even when they do not make any wrong turns!
Deportation is pretty humane punishment for illegally invading our country.
In places, trespassers are being shot!

Some unfortunate truck driver was hauling truckload of guns on I-10.
In El Paso, he made wrong turn and ended up in Mexico.
He tried to make quick U turn back to the US, but was stopped, arrested for having guns in Mexico and put in jail for years!
I am not sure, how it ended, but last I checked, he was still rotting in Mexican jail!
I would rather be deported!

My take was that any military base or post would let a civilian turn around if they made a wrong turn by mistake.
I share your sentiment - but since it's possible to draw S.S. when abroad, fear that we taxpayers aren't "off the hook" quite yet.

She’s “facing” deportation. That doesn’t mean she WILL be deported. She’ll probably go through some sort of judicial process. Isn’t that what the Trump haters are clamoring for?

Eggzackly. And I’d like to see how much she got on her tax refunds every year for the last 20 years. I think it’s safe to say she broke more laws than just crossing the border illegally.
