In a lengthy essay published in the New York Post, we learn that filmmaker David Zucker was recently asked an inane question at an anniversary screening of his 1980 film “Airplane!”
“Could you make ‘Airplane!’ today?” an audience member asked.
Zucker’s response was, “Of course, we could. Just without the jokes.”
Really? Is there a big market right now for films spoofing the genre of airplane-based disaster flicks from the 1970s?

No way could they make Blazing Saddles now. (Even though the fight scene at the end sort of foreshadowed Brokeback Mountain haha.)
Benny Hill was on my tv last night.
It comes on every week opposite snl.
He was pretty talented and it didn’t hurt that he surrounded himself with talent.
Airplane plot was almost an exact copy of the 50’s movie Zero Hour.
And men can menstruate, so we are told.. Tim Walz toes the Democrat line on that one, insisting on feminine hygiene products being in the boys restroom at school.
I probably just committed a crime against humanity, by calling them feminine hygiene products. I know we are not supposed to refer to such products with any indication of which of the two sexes uses such products.
Heck I just did it again, by saying there are two sexes.
I better quit while i’m ahead........
I remember movies from the 1940s, 50s and 60s that were censored on TV after the murder of Bobby Kennedy and the anti-violence hysteria began.
Some, like THE WAR LORD(1965) shown about 1970 on TV, was so butchered it was almost unwatchabl1e.
I remember, in 1969, seeing HEAVEN WITH A GUN, rated “G” at the theater. Lots of kids in the audience. A few years later I saw it on TV with additional cuts, er, that is butchering.
Then a few years back I saw it on the STARZ Western channel with new topless scenes added which would have made it “R” if released in 1969.
There’s only one way to find out if a movie like that could be made today. The problem is finding another Mel Brooks or Zucker Brothers to make it.
Could he remake The Kentucky Fried Movie?!?
There’s a new Naked Gun movie coming out with Liam Neeson playing Frank Drebin Jr.

Matt and Trey, are about it. We need another “Team America” movie.
Would he be willing to travel to Detroit?
Heck just about every old Bugs Bunny cartoon has been 86d. Heck... Just about every Loony Tunes has been purged. The democrat progs are taliban like in their quest to purify culture in their utopian vision. Only the profane, ugly, perverse, degenerate, destructive, anti human, anti Christian, is allowed for them.
The very first time I saw Airplane was in a movie theater when it originally came out in 1980. I was 11 years old.
I was going to the movies together with my then best friend once a week, every week for a lot of years from the 1970s-1980s. We were a couple of fanatics about the movies. We talked, read, ate, drank, and slept the movies. After seeing our movie in the theater, we usually retreated back to his apartment to watch more movies on his living room tv, whatever happened to be airing that afternoon and evening.
While I found that scene very funny, a senior citizen white woman who can speak jive, at the time i had as of yet to have seen an episode of Leave it to beaver. As a kid, I watched LOTS of daily syndicated reruns of classic tv shows around those years, but leave it to beaver wasn’t one of them. Either because it wasnt airing where I lived or it aired at an inopportune time like during school hours or late at night while I was sleeping.
Either way, because I never saw the series, the additional cultural reference of beaver cleavers mom speaking jive sailed way over my head. I didnt know specifically who she was. It wasnt until years later when I started watching episodes of leave it to beaver did the jive talk scene really connect and become twice as funny to me.
Try making Blazing Saddles...
Yes, it’s much funnier if you’ve seen Leave it to Beaver.
Barbara Billingsly is best known for her role as June Cleaver, but she was in a lot of earlier movies and was a very talented comedic actress — something we didn’t get to see on that TV show.
Great Simpons reference. How many people even get it?
I loved Doug McClure B movies. And on TV.
There was a neat TV show with 3 rotating actors as some kind of spies. They all had ear implants for electronic messaging and had a tiny video device they wore as a ring or pendant.
I belive Burgess Meredith was the head honcho at the control headquarters. Lee Meriwhether too?
McClure was one. Hugh someone and either Tiny or James Frans.....something.
Might have been during the Mystery Movie days.
The trailer is hilarious
It was Search. Hugh O’Brian, McClure, Tony Franciosa. Angela Thompkins instead of Lee Meriwether.
The trailer is hilarious
I can’t believe they went there.....LOL!
