I expect there will be a lot more stores like this tomorrow morning:
Three people are dead and five others were injured after a shooting at a restaurant in a Phoenix suburb Sunday night.
They were celebrating, what else: Cinco de Mayo, where it wouldn't be a proper party w/o gunfire erupting at some point.

I think it started to be celebrated by Mexican immigrants to the US during the American Civil War.
Making a big deal about beating the French is like the Dodgers making a big deal if they beat the Rockies 1-0.
Maybe Virginia should have a holiday celebrating their victory over the Yankees in the first battle of Manassas. To be celebrated mainly by Virginians no longer living in Virginia.

Yes. There’s a massive fireworks show in Cancun and other places, for example.
It’s both for tourists and natives, as it is considered the start of the Americas (writ large) break from Europe.

It’s literally undisputed this came about because of good old fashioned capitalism, to sell beer.

Since the battle of Puebla had Mexicans against French, in the spirit of reconciliation maybe we should eat Mexican food with French wine, or French food with shots of tequila.
But the French installed Maximilian of Austria as emperor, so a wiener schnitzel would also be suitable for the meal.
