Alcatraz, the once-infamous maximum-security prison located on a remote island in the San Francisco Bay, has been closed for over 60 years. Now, President Trump has announced plans to bring it back. Trump said the move would restore Alcatraz as a powerful symbol of law, order, and justice.

“That island belongs to the native people”
Which native people? American Indians? A Spanish civilization? An ancient Mexican Indian group? I don’t know much about the west coast history.
It probably has belonged to several civilizations over the centuries. How would you determine the actual native people?
I’m guessing the announcement was designed for the purpose of dominating the news cycle for a day or two.
I agree.
That might be a good spot, though I would rather they be placed as far away from the coast of the U.S. as possible.
**It’s too small. Only has enough cells for 336 inmates. We’d need a much bigger prison.**
Opportunity. Use it. 336 hard core ones. Sends a message. Screw SF and the money they’ll miss out on.
Excellent. Rebuild it, expand it, and turn it into CECOT USA.
It’s been shut down for quite a while. I had expected some developer to tear the old prison down and start a few clusters of condos, the way it happened when the Navy sold Treasure Island to a real estate company. The best waterfront views that money could buy, at least in this area.
**Mildly Off Topic; (Live) Birds I have seen near the Bay Area Waters.
Seagulls, Hawks, Crows, Owls, Woodpeckers, Bluebirds, Hummingbirds, Terns, Egrets, Storks, Pelicans, Albatross and of course nature’s most efficient polluter, the humble Canada Geese are seen here.
I believe that PJDT is just doing this to give the libtards something else to screech about.
I trust that this is just a Trumpism in his trolling efforts.
Realistically: Very bad idea.
However, I do like the idea of naming a series of subterranean desert prisons Alcatraz.
“The place would have to be totally torn down and rebuilt.”
a boatload of money
Locking them up shouldn’t be the solution, execution is. If a person needs to be locked up for 20 years or forever, then our society should be removing them from the living, not paying their food lodging for the rest of their lives.
Nan, the Bern, and most of the top liberals should be made permanent residents of The Rock.
My son and his GF came to visit when I lived in SF. She wanted to see Alcatraz, so we jumped on a boat to Sausalito that went past Alcatraz. Boat had person onboard who told the story of the “Bird Man of Alcatraz”, one of the nicer prisoners.
Alcatraz is the perfect place to keep horrible criminals. No way out.
No reparations to anyone. We must operate as one country where all citizens are equal. No one should claim special treatment or cash based on history many generations back. Every square inch of United States belongs to we the people without preferences or prejudice. Anything else will lead to divisiveness and unnecessary fights.
“Opportunity. Use it. 336 hard core ones. Sends a message. Screw SF and the money they’ll miss out on.”
The missing money will be from the US taxpayers for this boondoggle. How much do you think it would cost to rebuild the prison? Divide that by 336 and you’ll see what waste of money it is. Expensive labor on hard to build land.
If you want to make a statement, just put tents in the desert, surround it with barbed wire, and have military guard it. Go look into the Joe Arpaio Tent Jail in Phoenix.
They should rebuild it, and use it to host the Squid Games for prisoners on pay-per-view. It will pay for itself.
I’d say Guantanamo Bay would be better served for these purposes, but Alcatraz would be a real life American symbol of how criminal justice should be done.
We need a CECOT right here in the good old USA.
Excellent. Rebuild it, expand it, and turn it into CECOT USA.

That would make it a lot easier for libtards to go and share margaritas with terrorists.
I do believe the showers there were very hot. Didn’t want the prisoners to be comfortable in the bay if they could swim.
