“These are not idle threats," Mark Carney of said President Donald Trump after his election victory last week. | .......................
President Donald Trump isn’t closing the door on using force to attempt to annex Greenland and Canada. But he said the prospect of attacking Ottawa appears “highly unlikely.”
Greenland on the other hand?
“I don’t rule it out,” Trump told host Kristen Welker in an interview that aired Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “I don’t say I’m going to do it, but I don’t rule out anything. No, not there. We need Greenland very badly. Greenland is a very small amount of people, which we’ll take care of, and we’ll cherish them, and all of that. But we need that for international security.”
Since his November election, the president has made no secret of his desire to acquire Greenland. “We need it. We have to have it,” he told a radio host in March. That same month, White House officials led by Vice President JD Vance visited a U.S. Space Force base on the island, which boasts significant mineral reserves and a strategic spot in the Arctic.
It’s been a similar story with Canada. The president has often mused about turning the country into a 51st state. Trump’s fixation was “a real thing,” warned former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
“I don’t see it with Canada. I just don’t see it, I have to be honest with you,” Trump said of attacking the country in the NBC interview.
But the patriotic fervor Trump’s repeated attacks unleashed in the True North helped propel former banker Mark Carney and the previously beleaguered Liberals back into government for the fourth consecutive term — the first three were with Trudeau at the helm. Conservative candidate Pierre Poilievre not only saw his party lose a double-digit lead, he even lost his own seat in last week’s elections.

Carney stresses Canadian strength in face of Trump tariffs
“These are not idle threats,” Carney of said Trump after his election victory last week. “President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us. That will never, that will never, ever happen. But we also must recognize the reality that our world has fundamentally changed.”
The two are set to meet at the White House on Tuesday.
Trump downplayed the idea of using force on Canada with Welker. But he said he’d bring up a merger with Carney.
“I’ll always talk about that,” Trump said. “You know why? We subsidize Canada to the tune of $200 billion a year. We don’t need their cars. In fact, we don’t want their cars. We don’t need their energy. We don’t even want their energy. We have more than they do.”
Trump’s claim of a $200 billion subsidy, perhaps based in part on the U.S.-Canada trade deficit, appears firmly off base. But the president continues to cite the figure when discussing the two countries.
“And, if you look at our map, if you look at the geography — I’m a real estate guy at heart. When I look down at that without that artificial line that was drawn with a ruler many years ago,” Trump said. “Was just an artificial line, goes straight across. You don’t even realize. What a beautiful country it would be. It would be great.”
Re: 6 - good grief.
So because you don’t agree with what someone posts, they should be zotted?
100% its all about letting China know we’re watching. They have been scheming with corrupt paid off politicians to get a foot hold into the West. That crybaby Trudeau freakshow was bought and paid for just like Hunter and ‘the big guy.’ They did this to great effect in Africa. Mexico was just starting to play footsie under the table.
The WEF want to use China as the model for the world after their “Great Reset” rolls into place following some future manufactured global crisis.
Maybe another invented ‘health emergency’ promoted by the CCP owned WHO or just as likely an economic crisis as well. The USA and the West proved to be too resilient for them last time.
We do not need all of Canada. Just trade California for Alberta and Saskatchewan. The other Canadian provinces are communist.
thanks for the reference.
So then, we have a Supreme Court precedent, that states are not permitted to secede from the union.
States can join the union, but cannot secede.
If I recall correctly, the constitution does not have any provision for states to secede from the union, so the assumption is that secession would never happen.
I hope we get Greenland.
“Or has Lincoln settled that issue?”
Lincoln destroyed the Constitution to save the union.
But the principles of the Declaration of Independence still exist for those that can read.
I’ll predict that not one Canadian Province will successfully vote to leave Confederation in the next 4 years.
And that we will not initiate military action to take control of the Panama Canal or Greenland.
Exactly! I voted for Trump 3 times and would vote for him 12 more times but I’m not going to sit here if he says something goofy. If he deports the millions of illegals ( let’s hope) I’ll carve his face into Mt Rushmore with my bare hands
GW punched global terrorism in the face and took Iraq out of the game for 100 years. He also dramatically reduced personal taxes, raised estate taxes from just 600k to unlimited for years, and put dividends at 15% tax instead of ordinary income. His no child left behind was effective too.
I was a proud Bush supporter then and feel he’s been nice quiet and admirable since leaving office.
So there….
Under Treaty Law, if you think you're getting the short end of the stick, you simply advise the other members of the treaty that you're leaving. That's why treaties have an escape clause.
Under Contract Law, if you want to leave, you have to get the permission of the other parties. The only exceptions are fraud and non-performance. Madison stated that if even one state of the original 13 wanted to leave, it would require the concurrence of the other 12 states.
The important thing to remember is that unilateral secession violates the Constitution, not secession itself.
There’s a case to be made that Trump wanted Carney to win all along, which may have been at least partial motivation for his antagonistic “51st state” comments. Sundance has pointed out that USMCA comes up for review in July 2026 and makes the argument that POTUS wants out of the tri-lateral agreement, preferring separate deals with each country. A Poilievre administration would have made such a move more difficult.

And the Constitution does not have a provision for states to
allow the production of cherry flavored Dr. Pepper.
No one thought it was necessary to mention the right existed.
The Saudis were behind 9/11. They were terrified that they were going to be next after Iraq so they knocked it off whatever they were doing. Now they have MBS who is pro-western.
So it's working out pretty well.
We just have to deal with Iran but it appears to me that their regime may fall apart anytime soon. Its deeply unpopular with the Iranian people and they are already defying the regime.
We should offer Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia territorial status with an open border and military protection for a deal on lumber, oil, and minerals. They can remain independent and separate from Canadian socialist rule and we get a good deal on their exports. It would be a win-win.
“The important thing to remember is that unilateral secession violates the Constitution, not secession itself.”
That is an interesting comment.
Does unilateral secession violate the principles of the Declaration of Independence?
“Texas v. White, 1869.”
Victors justice.

Bush was also a democrat punching bag that showed very little political fight. At the end of his 2nd term the Republican Party was in horrible shape.
Which is too bad for W, because I had “high hopes” for his Presidency.
Something like a Compact of Free Association. Better deal than statehood and the worldwide income taxation (unlike almost every other nation) that comes with citizenship.
