Sounds like a suicide pact to me.

I wonder what the investigation will show.

Mother nature is beautiful but she is also out to kill you if you give her a chance. A lot of people in this country should never leave the city. Stay on a flat paved piece of land somewhere.

Pretty sure those are feline teeth.

We had a severe thunderstorm last night in NE Alabama which included a massive hailstorm that lasted at least a half hour. It was like it had snowed. The ground covered with ice. An outside cat that we care for came running onto the back porch while I was out taking in the storm and he was soaking wet, of course, had hail stuck to him and was stunned. My wife grabbed him with a towel and held him and dried him. He was freezing, shaking. Afterwards, he just lay in the floor and slept some. Took a three-hour nap and then wanted to go back outside after the storm passed. It is morning now and it has been 9 plus hours since we saw him. He is usually here every four or five hours wanting a snack. Kind of worried about the old guy. He is a 13-pound Tabby. I am about to go looking for him. And it is still raining here in NE Alabama.

Two Manhattan vets did a study on how cats were surviving falls from 15 and 20 stories.

The vets said from 3 stories the cat is having a fall but from 10 stories the cat falls and has time to relax so that when it hits the sidewalk it lands on first its feet but then the belly and rib cage spreading the landing and dispersing its effect which accounts for many of them living.

Oh, it was black …because I was wondering what color the pet carrier was. /S

[snip] Mirage, who is estimated to be 12 years old, was found by hikers on Tuesday night in a soft black pet carrier and in remarkably good condition... only suffered two fractured canine teeth and a few fractured ribs... It is not known how the couple fell, but they are thought to have crossed the guardrails at Inspiration Point, according to CBS News. [/snip]
They fell faster than their IQ test scores.

I hope someone finds their phones with their terminal selfies, YouTube will go nuts!
At least the kitty will find a good new home.

As many have said:

It is not the fall which kills, it is the sudden stop at the end...

Other article says the individuals were “currently unhoused”, and it’s already been stated that they crossed over the railying at Inspiration Point, and at 45 & 58 they were old enough to know better, so...

As sad as their deaths are, it reminds me of an old song that says “you don’t tug on Superman’s cape, you don’t spit into the wind...”. Stupid choices (which I presume was the case here) increase one’s chances of making undesirable outcomes more likely.

There are plenty of idiots who have lost their lives doing such stupid stunts for selfies and likes on social media.

Doesn't seem to be the case here, but I am glad the cat survived, he had no say in the supposed suicide pact and didn't deserve to be a part of it.
