President Trump said he wants to rename the federal holiday Veterans Day “Victory Day for World War I Day” and add another holiday to commemorate World War II, declaring the United States should “start celebrating our victories again!”
“Many of our allies and friends are celebrating May 8th as Victory Day, but we did more than any other Country, by far, in producing a victorious result on World War II. I am hereby renaming May 8th as Victory Day for World War II and November 11th as Victory Day for World War I,” Trump wrote on Truth Social late Thursday.
He added, “We won both Wars, nobody was close to us in terms of strength, bravery, or military brilliance, but we never celebrate anything — That’s because we don’t have leaders anymore, that know how to do so! We are going to start celebrating our victories again!”
Veterans Day, the federal holiday observed Nov. 11, originated as a way to celebrate the end of the World War I, but the day honors all military veterans.
The president did not say if he would want to make May 8 an official federal holiday. He called on renaming it as a day to celebrate the victory of World War II.
Federal holidays are created through acts of Congress. In 2021, Congress voted to establish Juneteenth as a federal holiday, and former President Biden signed the bill into law.

Don’t.
Europe can do what they want, but World War II ended September 2nd.
My dad was brought back to the states to prepare for the invasion of the Japanese homeland. He served from 1938 to 1940 at Corregidor in the Philippines. Once he landed back home in New York, he immediately reenlisted. He then started training men for the fight. He fought from Normandy to Germany to defeat the Nazis. But, that wasn't the end of the war. It continued until September 2nd.
So, official Victory in World War II should be September 2nd.
Nicht so gut!
Oh Bosh.
Too much. If we must have separate days for everything, we’ll have a never-ending calendar.
Just get rid of “Juneteenth”.
And BTW, why May 8? Oh, that’s right, we don’t care about the Japs. Let’s only concentrate on the white Germans.
Congress is supposed to do a lot of things that the Pres signs, but that doesn’t mean Trump won’t just declare everything under severe distress and use EOs for it as with everything else.
This is retarded. 24 year Army combat vet. Pointless.
Bad move on renaming Veterans Day. It should be a day for all veterans.
Yeah, separating veterans by war or "police action" isn't going to send a positive message.
Let them add days if they feel like it but there should be one day for all veterans who served, regardless if they saw war or not.
They should add February 18 for the end of the War of 1812, just as a reminder that our enemies of the Crown are still around.
This veteran says leave Memorial Day alone. Those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to this country should not only never be forgotten, but particularly commemorated by all generations as long as our flag waves.
No, Don. Just no.
If either of you are on Truth Social, maybe you could reach out to President Trump with your thoughts. I did, but I am not military.
Trump DOES know history, thus the change ideas.
No, I am not in favor of this. Veteran’s Day is for all Veterans that served honorably and with pride, regardless if the politicians let them win the war or not.
To create special days WWI and WWII makes vets of the Korean, Vietnam and Sandbox wars less honored, when in fact those that served, those that died were just as good of an American as the World War people.
Trump never served on active duty, he was never in an active combat zone in uniform, he was never shot at while in uniform, he has no idea what he’s doing.
Leave it alone.
And if I may add to my last post, this is from the Hill, a leftist outfit, and could be propaganda.
“ Just get rid of “Juneteenth”.”
Well; that’s the day when Republicans freed slaves that Democrats were holding.
“Victory Day for WWI” is too much of a mouthful. Let’s go back to calling it Armistice Day, which I have always called it.
Thanks for the good idea.
We should designate it Civil War Victory Day or American Unity Day. That way all Americans can celebrate it, not just the black ones.
“ We should designate it Civil War Victory Day or American Unity Day. That way all Americans can celebrate it, not just the black ones.”
Not a bad idea.
But in its present form I do go out of my way to point out how Republicans freed slaves held by Dems!
