It just seems the network sports themes were so much better in the past.....60s, 70s, 80s. All sports, NBA, NFL, Tennis, Golf.....Or maybe I'm just getting old. Great theme I remember well. NBA on CBS circa 1970. Catchy tune.

We must have seen that ski jumper wipe at the jump on Wide World of Sports 800 times ... But I never thought of a music theme to the image.

I think I recognize Jerry West, Left hander Dave Cowens, and Pistol Pete Maravich. At the 27 28 second mark....that’s pistol pete driving to the whoop....I think.

Also kudos to CBS for ELO’s “Fire On High” for CBS Sports Spectacular.

This one isn't even close. The best sports theme song of all time was "Gathering Crowds," which was used for the closing credits of This Week in Baseball in the 1980s:

NFL Today on CBS. 1976.

Brent Musburger, Irv Cross, Jimmy the Greek, and a touch of Phyllis George.

A lot of them sound like they were meant for something else. For example, LNBC's Sunday Night Football theme reminds many listeners of something from Star Wars. John Williams wrote it, so there might be that

Either ABC’s “Wide Workd of Sports” (with “The Agony of Defeat” and that poor guy on the ski jump) *or* “This Week in Baseball.”
