CBS also used ELP’s “Fanfare For The Common Man”.

"...Jerry West, Left hander Dave Cowens, and Pistol Pete Maravich."

1970's NBA was the best - I can close my eyes and see them all:

- Doctor J and Randy Smith leading the East in a come-from behind win in the All Star game.
- Bob Lanier and Jabbar battling underneath the basket.
- Walt Frazier dishing to Dave Debusscher.
- Tiny Archibald leading the league in points AND assists in the same year.
- Celtics - Suns triple over-time play off game.

Still the greatest game, ever.

Probably because it’s so short. A theme is usually a bit longer. This NFL theme from the 70s......was one of my favorites too.

I bet you liked it....:)

Great theme!

Yes.....the best! I used to walk up to the high school in Hacienda Heights CA and the dang gym was always closed at Los Altos High. In the 70s. So i had to shoot hoops outside with chain nets. But a couple of times, the gym was open....nobody in there.and I was in heaven.

Here’s an obscure one, for anyone who cared about soccer in the 70s.

Soccer Made In Germany

And then they would close with “Shame” by Evelyn Champagne King.

Either ABC’s “Wide Workd of Sports” (with “The Agony of Defeat” and that poor guy on the ski jump) *or* “This Week in Baseball.”

Thanks.

I played virtually every sport in high school....football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, floor hockey, tennis, even ping pong. But not soccer. No interest in a sport where you don’t use your hands...:)

But I respect great soccer players.

I still play 4.5 usta tennis, I golf and am learning Pickleball. It’s fun and quite the workout for singles. Every bit as much as Tennis.

so i never heard that soccer theme.....thanks.

Not sports, but a cool theme was the old National Geographic Theme, composed by Elmer Bernstein.

I recall going to Hartwick Soccer Games in the early 70’s, they would warm up to Glad by Traffic.

We had the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, and when I lived there, it was still a relatively small town, so they were a big deal. We had Gerd Muller, Gordie Banks, and even George Best played there for a spell.
