You find a breeder.

Sometimes you can find one in a shelter that has been dumped but they usually have problems.

Ours is a half breed, a Maine Coon knocked up the local hussy.

He is not as big as this one but a very nice cat.

Where do you set a litter box the size of a bathtub?

They are very expensive- my grandmother had maine coon cat, and it was a large cat, but not nearly that ,arge. I would imagine getting a cat nearly that size would cost and arm and a leg

My friend in California always had Maine Coon cats. Beautiful, highly intelligent felines. She flew to Maine to get two at the Kittery Cattery in Kittery, Maine. Very expensive. And not as large as the one pictured here.

How do you get a cat like that?

Our last wienerdog died three years ago. My wife was going through a lot of other issues, and she was heartbroken. We live in an area a little outside of a city and people abandon a lot of cats here. A very scruffy looking orange cat started showing up on our back porch. But he was very timid. She started putting out food for him. After a few months my wife and him made friends and a month or two after that he moved in with us.

He seemed to be a normal sized cat when he first arrived but he kept growing. We took him to the vet to check for a chip in case he was lost... but there was nothing. The vet said that he was a kitten, and he was still growing. Sure, enough he grew to be over 16 pounds... at his last checkup he weighed over 18 pounds. I asked if we were feeding him too much. The vet said, “No, he is just a really big cat and many really big cats don't stop growing until they are about 5 years old.” She laughed because we were wienerdog dog people for over 40 years and now our cat is bigger than any of the dogs that we have had.

He is a very affectionate cat and people always wonder if we have photoshopped pictures that we show them. The cat Zeus outweighs him by about 10 pounds, but Teddy is a Siberian who is extremely fluffy which makes him look larger than he actually is. He is over 3 feet tall when he stands on his back feet. He dwarfs all of the cat trees we have bought for him... We had to get a supersized litter box.

But he is extremely affectionate and has more of a dog like personality than I have ever seen in an animal that is not a dog. His favorite game is a sort of hockey game where we bat juice bottle caps across the floor, and he chases them down and bats them back. He can hit the caps so hard that they fly all the way across the room. And of course, he always likes to jump to the highest flat spot in any room. I am always worried that he is going to hurt himself when he jumps back down, but I have no idea how to end this behaivior.

He sheds so much this time of the year that I bought 3 robo-vacs so we can run them around each floor of the house every two or three days. The last time I pulled all of the fur out of the base station bags, we had enough fur to cover two or three cats. I am normally allergic to cats and many types of dogs, but his fur doesn't really bother me except that sometimes while I am sleeping he cuddles up to my face and I wake up with fur stuck to my lips and whiskers and in my nose.

Check into the Cat Fancier’s Association breeder page. Or look for a local show from the CFA. https://cfa.org/breed/maine-coon-cat/
