A French nun who traveled to say goodbye to Pope Francis in the Vatican this week was allowed to break church protocol.
The 81-year-old Sister Genevieve Jeanningros had a close, four-decade-long friendship with the late pope. In video taken of mourners at St. Peter's Basilica, Jeanningros can be seen standing in area traditionally reserved for cardinals, bishops and priests — positions held only by men.
In the video she can be seen praying near the pope's coffin for several minutes before saying her final goodbyes.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
I'm still Catholic.
Was there somethin’ goin’ on?
I appreciate Catholic Church for acknowledging the Biblical space for lifelong celibacy as embodied by Jesus, Paul, etc…or St. Augustine upon conversion etc….plus the genuine, spirit-bonds between male and female celebrated in the Bible. Nowadays people are can’t fathom that Jesus didn’t have an affair with Mary Magdalene 🙄.
A fellow traveler who must now tried the Utopian path alone. 😓
I can’t stand dumb-ass computer corrections. TROD, NOT TRIED.
I doubt it. Four decades? If there were, in that much time it would have become an open secret and for that reason she would NOT be permitted. As it was, I don't have a problem with this "breach of protocol", it's not like she was trying to become a priest or cardinal, she just stood in a VIP space, as it were.
Friends can be just friends. It happens.
OMG///MOST nuns were/ are nice human beings. Geesh////there probably wAS ANOTHER REASON YOUR PARENTS DIDN’T SEND YOU TO A CATHOLIC SCHOOL.
Well my dad told me the story of his friend who talked back to a nun, and she hit him so hard that he broke his arm on the blackboard.
How close?
ONE....ONE Nun!!! OMG!!! I’ve been taught by MANY NUNS and they were all nice! hint.....your dad was siding with a PUNK KID that talked back to a teacher??? hmmmm.

Same here. Every time I try to type muzzies for muslims, it changes it to muzzles.
This young priest. His first assignment was in a bad neighborhood. On his way to the church one evening a young girl asked: “A quickie for five bucks?” His response was “I beg your pardon?” “A quickie for five bucks? she repeated. He shook his head and continued. When he got to the church another woman asked: “A quickie for five bucks?” Frustrated he went inside and asked the head nun: “What’s a quickie?” Her response: “Five bucks’.
Like the old joke about the elderly priest asked how he has managed being alone all those years. And he answers if it wasn’t for his Rosary and some Irish whiskey every evening, he couldn’t have done it.
Then he leans over and calls into the kitchen and says, “Hey Rosary, I’m about ready for that whiskey now, bring one for my guest also!”

Who are the people you are referring to?
“people are can’t fathom that Jesus didn’t have an affair with Mary Magdalene”
And there’s the “fake news” that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute. Who pulled THAT out of his ass? It’s not in Scripture ... not even implied.
She has extremely poor taste in friends.
Skeptics who deny the divinity of Jesus and veracity of the Scripture.
They wonder why certain “gospels” and texts were thrown or rejected during the canonization of the Bible that took place long after (400 some years) Jesus supposedly died and rose…Including texts that may imply there was something ‘more’ going on with him and Mary of Magdala.
And re: so called Bible-believing Christians… American Evangelicals have a deep suspicion against celibacy. So if Jesus OR Paul OR numerous other key figures from Scripture were alive today, they wouldn’t be considered for pastoral positions just based on their singleness alone. 🤷🏻♀️
I’ve been on “pulpit committees” (pastor search committees) a few times. It was rare for a single pastor to be in the running, but there were a couple. They weren’t seriously considered.
At our last church I found out why. Turns out the young single pastor had had a lady living with him. Nobody knew about it until they ended the relationship and she was moving her stuff out of the parsonage.
