Skeptics who deny the divinity of Jesus and veracity of the Scripture.
They wonder why certain “gospels” and texts were thrown or rejected during the canonization of the Bible that took place long after (400 some years) Jesus supposedly died and rose…Including texts that may imply there was something ‘more’ going on with him and Mary of Magdala.
And re: so called Bible-believing Christians… American Evangelicals have a deep suspicion against celibacy. So if Jesus OR Paul OR numerous other key figures from Scripture were alive today, they wouldn’t be considered for pastoral positions just based on their singleness alone. 🤷🏻♀️
I’ve been on “pulpit committees” (pastor search committees) a few times. It was rare for a single pastor to be in the running, but there were a couple. They weren’t seriously considered.
At our last church I found out why. Turns out the young single pastor had had a lady living with him. Nobody knew about it until they ended the relationship and she was moving her stuff out of the parsonage.
Now my Methodist upbring may be showing through with it's split from the Church of England and of course its split from the Roman Catholic Church.
