Russia reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in the event it faces aggression by Western countries, Moscow's top security official, Sergei Shoigu, was quoted as saying in an interview with the TASS state news agency on Thursday.

Shoigu, who served for over a decade as Russia's defence minister until he moved to head its powerful security council in a government reshuffle last year, cited amendments to Moscow's nuclear doctrine approved by President Vladimir Putin last November.
Under the new terms, Russia could consider a nuclear strike in response to a conventional attack on Russia or its ally Belarus that "created a critical threat to their sovereignty and (or) their territorial integrity."
"...in the event of foreign states committing unfriendly actions that pose a threat to the sovereignty and territory integrity of the Russian Federation, our country considers it legitimate to take symmetric and asymmetric measures necessary to suppress such actions and prevent their recurrence," Shoigu said.

It’s Wednesday. That means Moscow makes nuke threats.

Russia already won in Ukraine. They have achieved their political (no NATO expansion) and military (seize ethnic Russian areas) objectives. That is a simple fact.
Any hope of Ukraine winning vaporized with the failed counter offensive in 2023.
Since then, the West, and with many political futures tied to this conflict, has been kicking the can down the road.
But you are correct in that Russia maintaining a nuclear arsenal with parity to ours is their only true deterrent.
The West enjoys such a large military manpower and budget, population, industrial output, intel service manpower and budget, technological advantage, that we frankly no longer saw them as a near peer and acted with impunity regards Ukraine. If the West truly mobilized and went to war, Russia would only have their nuclear deterant to stop us.
We’d say the same from our perspective as well. So would all the nuclear powers.
Iirc China and India had a standoff a while back.

The strike on that Russian ammo depot yesterday was catastrophic. I am surprised Russia did not nuke Kiev yesterday.
The biggest problem and obstacle as I see it is the far left liberal district judges who think they have authority beyond their districts.
