A recent flight to Italy was disrupted by a passenger who was upset about getting the wrong onboard meal. Before the plane turned back to the U.S., the man tried to charge into the cockpit. Passengers were stranded at their original airport for eight hours until their flight could take off again the next morning. Passengers on board a transatlantic American Airlines flight from New York City to Milan earlier this month were nearly at the the halfway mark of their eight-hour journey when they learned their plane was making a U-turn back to the U.S.
The reason: one disruptive passenger, whose tantrum was reportedly sparked over an in-flight meal order gone wrong, according to a CBS News report.
The flight departed on April 7 from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) at 7:07 p.m. local time, landing back at the same airport at 3:02 a.m., FlightAware data showed. Eventually the same flight number took off again on April 8 at 11:22 a.m., with the passengers arriving at Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) at 12:12 a.m. local time.
A passenger told the network the debacle started because the unruly passenger didn't get their meal of choice, explaining that they requested the meal before the flight. But that wasn’t the only issue. “They also wanted to sit in an exit row,” they added. “They had a baby with them, so they told them they couldn't and apparently those two things are what pushed the person over the edge."

That simp you describe was likely not the father of those two kids.
He's an ATM for the mother and her two kids.
Should be sued for the fuel costs.
I wonder if he is Jewish or black.
I heard a flight attendant say the worst passengers are on flights to Israel and India.
In addition to all the other documents need to fly, perhaps a mental health certificate should be included.

Why cause another hassle to millions of travelers? There’s a much more sensible solution, namely legislation mandating jail sentences for any disruptive behavior that requires the flight crew to abandon the original flight plan. The world is fraught with all manner of abhorrent personal behavior because those guilty of it suffer no adverse consequences. Heavy fines and/or minimum one-year prison sentences and/or permanent enrollment on the “no fly” list should bring an end to most of this nonsense.
A taser gun would have worked wonders too.
Absolutely.
NO ONE with a baby can sit in the emergency exit row.
He should be charged for the cost of the flight to return as well as any inconveniences to the other passengers - food, hotel, necessities - every damn thing.
Or any Spirit flight.
Not likely, the return flight was from a little less than the halfway point.
Your posts always make me laugh! ;-)
Anyone else notice, that the writer of this article went out of his or her way, to avoid any gender pronouns for the individual causing the disturbance?

Immediately! Hopefully someone on the flight will give the public additional information, perhaps even a photo of the perp!
Sorry, after all those incidents of people going wanka on flights you’d think another certification would be needed. I was just waxing funny. I’m glad I’m no longer flying commercial but now piloting bizjets where we know our clients.
inflight meal?
you mean they got served peanuts instead of potato chips?
how Tragic!

I hope at least one of the passengers who were delayed 16 hours, sues that whiny brat.
Lol!
,,, happily, everything went well at check in. If a mental health certificate in order to fly as a passenger ever becomes mandatory, the same should be required to run for public office.
,,, I flew from Orly to Malpensa in August 2019. I've never waited anywhere so long for my luggage when I got off a flight. I'll go postal next time I land there. I'd love to get a headline like this LOL!!
Unfortunately the pilots and crew are limited in what they can do to restrain a passenger thus they just turn around per the airlines policy and the police take him away.
I have a better suggestion if the pilots were allowed to do it but they are not now. A discreet tazer to the neck and a suggestion to walk forward to the jump seat after zip ties. Place several diaper pads on the jump seat and tell him to sit there quietly and tied up. Make it plain you will Tazer him again if you get verbally abusive and really want to do this and then duct tape his mouth.
Land in Rome and tell the local authorities to take care of this.
Or the Russian solution, “9x19mm Parabellum,” the standard side arm of the Russian Military today. The majority of those Russian civilian pilots are ex-military, they know how to shoot bad guys.
How many airplane hijackings have read about every in Russia?
