California-based Chipotle announces Mexico expansion plans

The Newport Beach, California-based fast-casual chain announced on Monday that it is expanding into Mexico in a partnership with Alsea, a leading restaurant operator in Latin America and Europe.

Chipotle will attempt to succeed where other U.S.-based Mexican food chains have failed. Taco Bell famously tried twice to expand into Mexico, first in the 1990s and again in the mid-2000s, only to see its last Mexico location close in 2010.

Taco Bell’s inability to gain traction in Mexico was chalked up to pricing issues and a perceived lack of authenticity, including menu items that didn’t translate especially well.

Wait, when did they go back to dog food? (I love their kangaroo meat!)

When I was an undergrad at UCSD, there was nowhere to eat on campus. I would drive down to Clairemont and hit the Jack-in-the-Box for a Bonus Jack and Coke. In that same time frame, there was a scandal with Jack-in-the-Box serving kangaroo meat. The very day that broke, I had dinner at Jack-in-the-Box. I asked for the Bonus Jack, but "no roo" please. The employees were still in full cringe mode from the scandal announcement.

The dish I described is "Cottage Pie" on the menu. They also have corned beef and cabbage with Guinness bread. There is a very fine burger made with a whiskey based barbecue sauce and an 8 oz pub steak that is also very good. Lots of micro-brew beer offering along with Irish/Scottish/Welsh beer and hard liquor offerings.

Their website: The Celt

UCSD in 1981 . . . I was living in the L.A. area but made plenty of trips to San Diego. La Jolla was one of my favorite SCUBA diving spots.

They should smuggle escaped, US prisoners to MX and use them for cheap labor.

This franchise is 90% owned by McDonald’s.

There isn't any evidence of McDonald's involvement on the premises. The owner lives in Idaho Falls and has served as a Lt Governor in Idaho. As a frequent patron, I find the food and service excellent.

Just read an article on how Chipotle is one of 3 filthiest worst fast food chains. Burger King was another, I forget the third
