PBS NEWSHOUR: New York Times columnist David Brooks and Washington Post associate editor Jonathan Capehart join William Brangham to discuss the week in politics, including President Trump's continued faceoff with the courts, if Republicans will begin pushing back against the president and Harvard rejecting Trump's demands.
David Brooks, New York Times: What’s Happening Is Not Normal. America Needs an Uprising That Is Not Normal.
"The core argument is that Trump is really about amassing power," Brooks said of his column. "And anything that might potentially restrain his power, he will destroy. And that includes the court systems and anything part of that livens humanity."
WILLIAM BRANGHAM, PBS NEWSHOUR: Well, you offered a prescription, David, in your column in The New York Times for this moment that we are in. And you called for a civic uprising.
You said in this column, I want to read a bit of this, saying that the attacks that we have seen on institutions — quote — "are not separate battles. This is a simple effort to undo the parts of the civilizational order that might restrain Trump's acquisition of power."
So how would that civic uprising form?
DAVID BROOKS, NEW YORK TIMES: Yes, the core argument is that Trump is really about amassing power. And anything that might potentially restrain his power, he will destroy.
And that includes the court systems and anything part of that livens humanity. It includes the universities, the scientific community, the truth, the media. And so far, we have responded to all these things, NATO, in separate lanes. We think the Fed is different than NATO, which is different from the universities.
But my point is, this is all one thing. And if institutions and even sectors try to respond to this individually, they're doomed.

Anything that “Livens humanity”. Is that what you call it?
I don’t think that Brooks suffers from TDS the way Jennifer Rubin does. I think he is a craven cynical RINO to the core elitist type, who will give up everything important to get a little that is unimportant, and is VERY comfortable in his position, and wants to maintain it.
But my point is, this is all one thing. And if institutions and even sectors try to respond to this individually, they’re doomed.
managing for what you don’t want never takes you anywhere. It is a French revolution, there is always another thing you don’t want.
Trump is an american revolution for clear objectives. MAGA
Brooks (and his employer, and the CIA by inference) are calling for a Color Revolution.
Amassing power by slashing the size and power of government....
Dumbarse.
So a columnist can encourage an uprising against an administration and not be held accountable by the editor. Gotcha!!
Thurston Howell Republicans
David Brooks, New York Times: “What’s Happening Is Not Normal. America Needs an Uprising That Is Not Normal.”
That’s how you get real tyrants.
It’s like the danger of abusing antibiotics. Some powerful antibiotics are very dangerous to use, not because they effectively kill bacteria but because they promote the rapid evolution of much more potent, deadly strains. But in this case, they are choosing potent antibiotics to target healthy gut bacteria.
If the left, and quisling “conservatives” like Brooks, achieve their aim, they will leave a vacuum that can only be filled by a true tyrant. They attack President Trump, who is, ironically, the one protecting most of them from total destruction.
Look what leftism did to Venezuela. It reduced the population to abject poverty so they had to wait in line for hours to get basic staples. Zoo animals were killed for food. That’s where these folks’ “Uprising” will get them. Or, more likely, just dead.
How about “no naturalized citizen may be appointed as an Article III judge or Associate Justice of the Supreme Court until 20 years have elapsed since the date of naturalization, during which time the citizen shall have resided continuously within the United States (except for leisure or business travel not to exceed 28 days in any calendar year). No naturalized citizen shall be appointed to any position of trust or profit under the United States who has ever served in the military forces or police of a foreign state”
when the truth about leftist media bias started getting some traction. early 2000s(?)
nyt hired brooks and wapo hired jennifer rubin
so they could say see we hire conservatives too
brooks and rubin spent their time complaining about conservatives
brooks was the one going gaga over obama’s crease in his pants
I don’t get Brooks. If he really is a conservative, wouldn’t he WELCOME Trump’s very conservative policies?
My answer then, comes down to three things:
1. He is NOT a conservative. He just plays one on TV, like a Colgate dentist. (most likely)
2. He’s jealous.
3. He’s stupid (also not just likely but proven) and believes his far-Left colleagues on every “Orangeman bad” story.
They want to amass and protect their power to enrich themselves and feed their enormous egos. They couldn’t care less about the nation and its citizens.
His answerer was vague, but this stands out:
"And it can't be political. It's not Democrats versus Republicans. It's not left versus right. It's institutions versus the destruction of our institutions of civilization."
It is whatever response beyond political saves the nation from in his view prevents destruction of his idea of government.
Politics is the only way a society can peacefully modify its government. That is why he was vague, he doesn't want to be charged with advocating a violent overthrough.

BROOKS IS A BAD WART ON THE BACKSIDE OF HUMANS
