30 years ago, the FBI might have had its biggest bomb: the World Trade Center attack
New York Post ^ | Feb. 26, 2023 | James Bovard

Thirty years ago Sunday, the largest terrorist attack then in American history occurred when a 1,200-pound bomb exploded beneath the World Trade Center in New York City.

It was sheer luck that the explosion did not topple the entire skyscraper and kill thousands of people.

Politicians solemnly marked the anniversary, but dignitaries made no mention of the FBI’s role in that disaster.

...

Osama bin Laden reportedly financed Nosair’s legal defense.

...

On Feb. 26, 1993, a massive bomb in a van exploded in the parking garage beneath the World Trade Center, killing six people, injuring more than a thousand and causing half a billion dollars in damage. If the vehicle had been parked a few feet closer to one of the pillars, an entire tower could have collapsed.

...

In August 1993, as the case was heading for trial, news leaked that Salem had made tapes of more than 100 hours of his conversations with FBI agents and handlers. Those tapes portrayed the FBI as co-conspirator with the terrorist plotters.

...

Before the bombing, Salem offered to substitute harmless powder for the deadly explosives, thereby preventing any catastrophe. The FBI spurned his offer.

....

Before the 9/11 attacks, the FBI again dismally failed to connect the dots of terrorist plotters inside America.

...

The FBI’s gross negligence “contributed to the United States becoming, in effect, a sanctuary for radical terrorists,” a 2002 congressional investigation found.

The 1993 World Trade Center bombing is a reminder that Americans are unlikely to hear about FBI fiascos until long after the damage is done, if ever.

Neither Congress nor federal courts have put the FBI on a leash, and the media continue kowtowing to G-men who serve up juicy leaks.

Donald Trump's 9/11 bomb theory on the day of terror attack which destroyed World Trade Center

Donald Trump believed the Twin Towers were destroyed with bombs as well as planes on 9/11 , in an interview on the day of the terror attack.

In a phone interview with a local New York news station just hours after the World Trade Center buildings collapsed in 2001, the real estate mogul said that he didn't see how a plane could break through the steel on the buildings' sides.

The interview - 15 years before he ran for President - appeared on rolling news coverage for WWOR/UPN 9, as he gave his expert opinion as a property developer.

And he suggested that the towers were destroyed by "bombs that exploded almost simultaneously" when the planes collided with the towers.

He said: "It wasn’t architectural defect. The World Trade Center was always known as a very very strong building. Don't forget that took a big bomb in the basement [in a 1993 attack]"

He continued: "When I first looked at it I couldn't believe it because there was a hole in the steel. Remember that the width of the windows in the World Trade Center, if you were ever up there, they were quite narrow, and in between was this heavy steel.

"I said how could a plane - even a plane, even a 767 or 747 or whatever it might have been - how could it possibly go through that steel?

"I happen to think that they had not only a plane, but they had bombs that exploded almost simultaneously.

"Because I can’t imagine anything being able to go through that wall.

"Most buildings are built with the steel on the inside around the elevator shaft, this one was built from the outside, which is the strongest structure you can have. And it was almost like a can of soup"

He added: "I just think it was a plane with more than just fuel. I think obviously they were very big planes and they were moving very rapidly... it just seemed to me that to do that kind of destruction is even more than a big plane, because you're talking about taking out steel."

Trump's claims are similar to a conspiracy theory, which suggests that it wasn't planes at all that destroyed the WTC, but that the buildings were instead deliberately destroyed by explosives.

His theories have since been debunked by the official investigation into the 9/11 attacks.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology issued its final report on the Twin Towers in 2005, and concluded that it was the planes that brought down the towers.

In an FAQ published in 2006, the investigators said that "the massive damage was caused by the large mass of the aircraft, their high speed and momentum, which severed the relatively light steel of the exterior columns".

Fire proofing insulation was also damaged by the impact, and the massive amounts of burning jet fuel weakened the supporting steel, which caused the structure on the impact floors to fail, causing the collapse of the building when it couldn't support its own weight.

Trump also bizarrely used the tragedy to brag about the size of his own Trump Building in downtown Manhattan.

He said: “40 Wall Street actually was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and it was actually, before the World Trade Center, was the tallest — and then, when they built the World Trade Center, it became known as the second tallest. And now it’s the tallest.”

Presenter Brenda Blackmon has since told the Washington Post that the response left her 'stunned'. She said: “Any reaction I had, in the midst of everything that was happening, was, wow, that’s insensitive. It just was.”

Trump's bomb theory isn't the only conspiracy he has bought into concerning 9/11.

During his presidential campaign he claimed that he saw "thousands" of Muslims in New Jersey celebrating shortly after the attacks but offered no proof or corroborating witnesses.

Fact-checking website Politifact called that statement "pants on fire" inaccurate

I thought this was by the bee at first. As if the FBI didn’t know 30 years ago when half of the participants were on their payroll. This is another stupid article...oh boy.

The media of that time (1993), must have done a great job of covering this story up, because I have zero memory of it.
Maybe I heard about ‘an explosion in NYC’ but nothing of this magnitude.

I found out late that even the ‘beloved’ Walter Cronkite was a hard L Liberal, who supported almost everything Bill Clinton did to the military back then. Slash & Burn.
Cronkite was a news reader and a good performer in a tailored Brooks Brother’s suit. Not a whole lot more.

I lived in Seattle then. Never woke up early but for some reason, I did that day. Went downstairs and turned on TV in time to see buildings falling down.’

Had a FRiend named Ken5050 whose daughter worked in the tower. We had exchanged phone numbers and he called me as he ran down he street to the towers to see if she got out. She worked on a lower floor and was OK.
He said the streets were clogged with people running down to see whether their loved ones survived.

Whatever destroyed the World Trade Center and however they did it, should rot in hell.

“the FBI again dismally failed to connect the dots of terrorist plotters inside America.”

Considering what we now know about the FBI, well ... never mind.

Their timing is off. 1993 was not thirty years ago. But, thirty years ago (April 19, 1995) was when the Murrah building in Oklahoma City was destroyed. It was a Wednesday, and started as a bright spring day. It ended with a chilling drizzle for 2-3 days.

The FBI poses as an elite police force who can solve crimes that local and state cops can’t. The trick is that the FBI hires the criminals. Just ask Whitey Bulger.

It was a big story in New York. By the way, that was when Mayor Dinkins wore the huge fire hat that Rush used to mock him for, General Dinkins.

As I constantly post over on GAB, when the fires get the rivets and bolts hot enough, not even red hot, they lose their temper, shear off and down it comes. Then each load above will add it’s weight to the lower bolts and shear them off.
I worked in steel fabrication and knew this well.
