MILWAUKEE -- Ed Miklavcic said the secrets to his longevity are simple: He took care of himself and worked hard.
It showed on Wednesday at American Family Field, where the 105-year-old Miklavcic, a World War II veteran and the second-oldest living survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, threw a ceremonial first pitch for the ages prior to the Tigers-Brewers game.
Brewers outfielder Sal Frelick and manager Pat Murphy were among those who visited with Miklavcic before his pitch. He is one of 15 veterans of Pearl Harbor alive today after this week’s passing of 106-year-old Vaughn P. Drake Jr. in Kentucky.
Miklavcic resides in Brookfield, Wis., where he celebrated his 105th birthday earlier this month.
“I was still walking five miles a day at 102 years old,” Miklavcic told Milwaukee’s WISN 12 News. “Now, I only walk a mile a day.”
I thought the last known survivor of Pearl Harbor just passed away within the last few weeks or so.
That was reported as ‘oldest’, not last.
God Bless him!!
That was the oldest Pearl Harbor survivor who died last week at 106. There are now 15 Pearl Harbor survivors living.

Ah. Thank you. I misread that.
There was one Edward Miklavcic (not the living Pearl Harbor survivor) and Geni told me I was connected to him.
More exactly, that person was my first cousin's husband's first cousin once removed's wife's great-uncle's wife's niece's husband's sister's third great-niece's husband's first cousin once removed's husband's first cousin.
I can believe that since my first cousin's husband was part Slovenian.
Actually I think the Edward Miklavcic on Geni is the living 105-year-old. Geni had him as “deceased” but did not have a year of birth. I found him on the 1940 census aged 20 in La Salle, Illinois, with his parents Joseph and Mary and a bunch of siblings.
Wonderful story. We need more positive stories here.
Great job, Mr. Miklavcic!
