For MANY decades, in NYC! The FAKES were even being sold on Fifth Ave., for a short while in the 1980s. But Rudy had them driven away.
That way they don't have to worry about damage or theft.
Seems high end Rolex watches have become investment grade assets and people hate to scratch them up and lose appreciation and investment value on the secondary market.
To me that kind of defeats the purpose of having and wearing a world class time piece but to each their own.
Didn’t it start in Florence, during FASHION WEEK?
“ men and women who wear a lot of things with the brand names all over them, it’s NEW MONEY showing off.”
Wouldn’t it be nice if our Congress critters had to wear patches representing each of their donor corporations, trust funds, etc. like people wear designer labels or NASCAR drivers put on their coveralls
I think it all started in Milan, the fashion hub of Italy. I learned right here on Free republic about the so-called Italian leather jackets made by Chinese people in Chinese owned factories in Milan
Sort of like a space capsule filled with high maintenance women?

...He turns and says, “well then tell me, who DID you get this FAKE Rolex from?”
“Well, I stated calmly and coolly, I was presented this beautiful timepiece from the President and CEO of Rolex Watches while standing on the podium at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.”
“OH, Sure!” he says, “and I’m Santa Claus!!”...
Nah. Sometimes you don't want to have to dig for your phone just to see what time it is. But more importantly, some of work in places where having a smart phone with you is either a bad idea or is prohibited.
Patek Phillipe, Piaget, Gerard Perragaux, Tissot, To name only a few.
Oh what a FANTASTIC idea! Also very clever of you tho think that up!
Oh yes, maybe it was Milan! It WAS during FASHION WEEK, though.
Fake Rolex watches have been around for years but these new “super clones” are next level, some experts have a hard time telling that they are fakes.
If they are perfect copies including made with actual gems and precious metals, what’s the difference? How can you tell? It means that Rolex is way overcharging I think.
Are some very high end things ( clothing, watches, purses )well worth what one pays for them? YES! So WHY? It's simple...very good quality things last and last and LAST; many get handed down to the next generation and beyond that. And for the most part, these things don't SCREAM: "LOOK AT ME; LOOK HOW MUCH MONEY I SPENT ON xxxx.!
But COPIES are NEVER made with the SAME materials, nor are they as well made. So whatever one pays for a knock-off is WASTED money!
What’s the difference? Gee, maybe because they are ripping off the IP of Rolex? It’s the same crap the Chinese have done to American companies forever.
“The purpose of displaying a luxury brand is to say you have the wherewithal to waste money. This makes you sexually more desirable.”
you nailed it!
wealthy enough to burn money = sexual appeal ...
So, if they are made with inferior materials why would it be hard to tell the difference? I hate Chinese counterfeiting as much as anyone. However I’m not going to go to bat for the Rolex corp either.
