So, if they are made with inferior materials why would it be hard to tell the difference? I hate Chinese counterfeiting as much as anyone. However I’m not going to go to bat for the Rolex corp either.
Fakes are easy to tell; especially by an expert.People who buy the fakes don't care that they're fakes, or they don't know enough to tell the difference, even when the fake costs far less than the REAL item.
If someone sells you a piece of jewelry and claims that it is from HARRY WINSTON, CARTIER,or TIFFANY, at much LOWER price...the odds are it's a fake! these items are stamped, have serial numbers, and even with faked pressings , IF you but the item on a street in Manhattan, or Chicago, etc., you're an IDIOT if you believe that it's REAL!
The same thing can be said about a Birkin bag that is supposedly made from ostrich, or some other expensive leather, or even a plain leather one! And second hand items can also be FAKES! You aren't asked to show a sales slip when you sell an item to a store that resells USED items;though buying from a reputable "used"/previously owned purveyor is safer than buying anything being sold on the street or in a store in China Town, in Manhattan.
