So there was a delay in the Rice v. South Florida baseball game yesterday due to this beehive in the visitor dugout.

But never fear, this random hillbilly came in to save the day, and he did it with his bare hands.

No protective gear, no gloves, no nothing - and not even a flinch from that man!
Grabbed the hive, tossed it in a container, and he's gone.

Bro's just adding to that 2025 honey harvest! I've seen some "barehand" baseball highlights in my day, but this is a first for me, and it moves immediately to the top of the list.
One of the most "Murica" videos out there right now!
Not sure what to think about his mental processes.
Sounds wonderful. Where are you located? Michigan? Washington State?
The California Central Valley is like that in the spring. Blossoms as far as you can see.
Here in Santa Clara Valley (CA), it was like that up until the post WW II housing boom. It was nicknamed "Valley of Heart's Delight" and was covered in fruit trees from the 1850s onward. Our City Hall has a several acre "Heritage Orchard" and the library wants to rip out a quarter acre to build a patio. The people here really oppose it, but I think City Hall approved it. <;>
Generally. Not true enough to risk this. My neighbor’s oak tree is home to a hive that issues swarms once to twice a year. I’ve twice had to take my dogs to the emergency vet just for their sniffing.
Yeah, you can get away with grabbing a swarm. But, you better be the size of this guy if they decide to take offense — that weight will minimize the anaphalactic (sp?) shock.
Some beekeepers form associations and have beard contests, utilizing this - with awards to the largest beard.
I am assuming you are talking about honey bees. If those bees are swarming like the ones in this video, they would not sting the neighbor’s children unless the kids started really manhandling the swarm.
We had a swarm in our yard a few years ago. I was not worried that the bees would cause us any problems, but I figured it would be better for them to get a good home. I went online and found a local beekeeper. Gave him a call, and he was more than happy to give the bees a place to live, and it didn’t cost me any money.
Tell your neighbor to do this next time.

Worked at Intel’s Fab 1 in Mountain View in the ‘70s. (Middlefield Rd.)
In case of emergency we were directed to head for the orchard which surrounded the building.
“...they would not sting the neighbor’s children unless the kids started really manhandling the swarm.”
When I was four or five years old in Utica, NY, I had a smiling bumblebee toy about the size of a tennis ball that you could swing around on a string. The wings would flap and it would buzz. One spring day, I thought the bees in the hive in the empty lot next door would like to see my bee, so I went over and swung it around to make it buzz. The bees did not like that one bit. Fortunately I didn’t get stung as I ran back to our house!
I progressed from that wildlife incident to petting bison and bears at Yellowstone! (jk)
What did he grab? Just a handful of bees? The queen is at the center of that swarm, isn’t she?
So you remember the gorgeous blossoms in mid Feb through March then. There were lots of orchards here back in those days. Almost all gone now.
Fab 1 — wow, you were in at the very beginning!
BTW, that’s not really a beehive. It is a swarm. When a colony needs to split in 2, they leave with the old queen to look for a suitable location. The swarm is just resting here, and the bees will not be at all aggressive.
Great explanation here:

And that is not some random guy. I see in the photo that the man who takes down the swarm is carrying part of a manmade beehive.
Yeah, before Intel was hp bldgs 10 & 11. Opto grew GaAs ingots in 10. Seems some arsenic got loose there. All three are/were Superfund sites...
Grab one with your hand.
imma freaked out just lookin at that.
i have..many times. Id grab one and throw it at my twin sister when we were kids. I lived...
National Opto Materials Group in Hawthorne CA had a poly crystal forming furnace launch a GaAs ingot through the lab coat of the guy who decided he could cool it too quickly so he could start his weekend. It embedded itself in the wall and it snowed white arsenic through most of the building.
Fun times, fun times...
That’s interesting. Mrs. Afterguard worked there for a couple of years while we were stationed at NAS Moffett Field. She worked in admin.
Beekeeper here. Bees are in serious trouble nationwide. Large commercial beekeepers are reporting 50% - 70% colony losses this spring (I lost 40% of my hives this year) The cause in under serious investigation and may be due to Varroa Destructor Mites, various diseases and reckless use of pesticides. Thats kind of a small swarm, but I’d take it any day! If you find a swarm such as this, call a local beekeeper, who will most likely come and remove them for free as well as preserving the colony. A 4-pound package of bees with a queen are worth $250.00 in my state! Swarms are like free money
Funny. Those bees, IMO, were ingrates. 😀
