New York City has a mayoral election later this year, and the two leading candidates right now are former governor Andrew Cuomo and a state assemblyman named Zohran Mamdani. The latter has gained traction in the polls by promising to build city-run grocery stores that “will operate without profit motive” in order to combat “the outrageous price of groceries.” Leave it to the residents of Gotham to pin their hopes on either the guy who turned nursing homes into COVID death traps or a proud communist who is blithely unaware of the Soviet Union’s history with breadlines.
In response to Mamdani’s plan for government-run grocery stores, John Catsimatidis — the über-successful owner of New York’s Gristedes and D’Agostino food chains — has offered the mayoral candidate one of his supermarkets to test his ideas in practice. The offer comes with one stipulation: The city must eat all shoplifting costs.
Mamdani does not appear eager to accept Catsimatidis’s proposal. After all, New York City is in the middle of a shoplifting crisis today, and mayoral-wannabe Mamdani wants to replace traditional policing with a “Department of Community Safety” that empowers “dedicated outreach workers” to handle “the failures of our social safety net.”
Something tells me that Mamdani’s vision for New York will turn grocery shopping into even more of a nightmare. His city-run stores will become magnets for mass theft, and responding community “outreach workers” will be more concerned with criminals’ “preferred pronouns” than stopping armed robberies. Shelves will be empty. Food prices will go up. New York City’s budget problems will get exponentially worse. It’s all entirely predictable, but plenty of Democrats will vote for this government-engineered catastrophe anyway.

Bring back the breadlines.

A very good article by J.B. Shurk. Thanks for posting.
It’s not that Democrats can’t connect the dots—they’ve abandoned logic altogether. The party has been overtaken by Marxist emotionalism, where feelings replace facts and critical thinking is seen as oppressive.
Just look at any left-wing protest movement today: screaming, rage, emotional outbursts. That’s not accidental—it’s the result of years of ideological conditioning that prioritizes grievance over reason.
The inability to address root causes like crime isn’t a blind spot. It’s a feature of the worldview they’ve adopted
Well, as the apostle Paul said
even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
The government can never operate anything as efficiently as the free market. Businesses die if they don’t compete well.
Regarding Cuomo’s proposal: Take any business, freeze it in time, and eliminate competition. With no motivation for it to improve, it will soon need to be subsidized (taxpayer losses, not profit).
Real-life examples: public schools, the post office, health insurance, student loans, etc. These should all be privatized (with good regulation).
That’s right.
That suggests that dems were moral at some point. That assumes facts not in evidence.
CC
Grocery stores operate on such a small margin, no government can compete.
Unless they will spend a lot of taxpayers money to subsidize them.
New York elections are like being at a 3 card Monte convention.
I tried something different this morning—I did what my parents and grandparents did in the old days.
I overrode the paywall and read every front page article of the New York Times.
The quality of the articles is much lower than it was decades ago. There were many assertions without evidence—opinions and bias reeked in every sentence. Meanwhile hard facts are almost impossible to find. I did not learn one simple fact that I did not know.
That is scary.
As bad as we may think the mass media is—they are even worse.
Communists are Communists.
The Democratic Party should change it’s name to the Demoncratic party.
Collectivism. It is many things. None of them are good.
And threats to our way of life.
At all.
The Demonicrats dumped morality long ago when they adopted lies, perversion, murder, and treason as their behavorial standards.
Except there won’t be bread lines. People these days are not that civil.
Just watch Black Friday specials opening day videos.
