Who in the hell takes 25 kids with special needs hiking in ARIZONA in these temperatures???? OMG there is stupid and then there is a whole other realm of STUPID!!!
City folk with little or no experience in the outback!
Sounds like poor planning by tenderfoot hikers.
When in Rome do as the Romans do. If there aren’t any locals marching through the Arizona desert, it’s due to common sense.
Know the area well, pretty much right down the street. It is not far from Hoover Dam, so folks going to see Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon West also take the little side trip down to the Hot Springs. Europeans and city folks who fly into Vegas mostly. It is a downhill hike to the Springs and the up hill hike back out kills them. The Europeans get hit the hardest by the heat.
Buzzards gotta eat, too, you know.
Don’t forget to wear a parka and gloves in case of snow!
It is a bummer for locals when they close it like this. It is a pretty good fishing spot and popular for the locals who ARE used to the heat.
I almost bet, that the dead hiker was a German tourist.

This is failure to acknowledge that Mother Nature is indeed a Bitch.
Anyone who sets out for a hike in the Arizona desert when temps are over 100 needs his head examined.
When we were hiking in Hawaii, we were told if we needed rescue it would cost us a minimum of $800+ dollars.
Not a few minutes later, we saw a helicopter fly over to rescue stranded hikers (was in the paper the next day).
The morons behind the debacle.
I’m in Arizona and the high today is 78°, sunny with cobalt blue skies and cotton ball clouds. The next eight days its going to go down to the mid 60s.
This article sounds like a bunch of typical stupid tourists.
LOL
When stationed at Nellis AFB, we used to hike down to Ringbolt Rapids to watch al the nekkid hippie chicks out “sunbathing”.

They had to close a couple of popular hiking trails in Phoenix due to all the deaths and rescues from the heat. People fly into Phoenix and the first thing they do is hike Camelback Mt. in mid-afternoon. Then they make the evening news...
