In the heart of downtown Atlanta, several people witnessed the unthinkable over the weekend.
A dead horse was seen lying on the sidewalk in front of Unity National Bank at Peachtree Street and MLK Jr. Drive.
Jon Birdsong owns the building where the bank is located and reported the incident.
“We called Department of Agriculture, firefighters, police officers and animal control,” Birdsong said.
Authorities responded to the scene and placed a white tarp over the horse.
“They were trying to feed it and do everything they could to give it water,” Birdsong said.
Officers said the horse’s owner reported that the animal suffered a “possible medical emergency” and collapsed on the sidewalk.
“A horse passed away around 12:48 a.m. on Sunday morning due to natural causes,” Birdsong said.
Birdsong said the horse was privately owned and did not belong to a carriage company. As for why the owner was riding the horse downtown, it’s unclear.

“This used to be a fad in Dublin, Ireland maybe thirty years ago. People would keep horses in sheds and ride them around town.”
When I first went to Az to set up the property where we were moving to I hit a Del Taco drive through right in downtown. Gave my order and pulled around to the pick up window, as I came around the corner there were two Equestrians on horses ahead of me at the drive through pick up window. Not unusual at all in Az. :)
There are, indeed, plenty of zombies in Atlanta.
Epicenter CNN.
They tried to find brains, but were disappointed and so have to wander the city.
You can spot them by their Act Blue shirts.
She just wanted to eat the horse.
What a foolish idea.
Does the horse have a name?
Apparently. Did I need the “/s” in that post?
You clearly don’t own horses if you think anything about them is not expensive.
We have them for actual ranch work and they are, by far, my most expensive employees.
To subject the horse to that—or to note how cruel it was?
CNN headquarters still beating the Signalgate dead horse?
“..authorities placed a white tarp over the horse..”
“..they were trying to give it food and water..”
**Based on the sequence of these statements, it almost sounds like they were trying to feed food and water to a dead horse, now under a white tarp! It’s a well known fact that most horses display a greatly reduced appetite after they have died.
Well, the psychologist told that rancher that he could either have a live cow or a dead horse.
COULD HAVE BEEN ANY NUMBER OF FACTORS.
A HORSE CAN HAVE A HEART ATTACK & GO DOWN IN SECONDS.
To subject the horse to that treatment.
It looks like the horse is dead.
The horse suffered and died because of unaclimate change.
Sounds like someone bought a horse at auction with no trailer, didn’t “look the horse in the mouth”, bought a poor animal on its last legs, tried to ride it to a barn somewhere, and the poor beast expired on the way.
Agreed!
Horsing around, obviously!
