In the heart of downtown Atlanta, several people witnessed the unthinkable over the weekend.
A dead horse was seen lying on the sidewalk in front of Unity National Bank at Peachtree Street and MLK Jr. Drive.
Jon Birdsong owns the building where the bank is located and reported the incident.
“We called Department of Agriculture, firefighters, police officers and animal control,” Birdsong said.
Authorities responded to the scene and placed a white tarp over the horse.
“They were trying to feed it and do everything they could to give it water,” Birdsong said.
Officers said the horse’s owner reported that the animal suffered a “possible medical emergency” and collapsed on the sidewalk.
“A horse passed away around 12:48 a.m. on Sunday morning due to natural causes,” Birdsong said.
Birdsong said the horse was privately owned and did not belong to a carriage company. As for why the owner was riding the horse downtown, it’s unclear.

Kudos to the authorities for having questions.
What’s a horse doing on MLK Jr. Drive?
Animal cruelty charges for the owner.
Questions remain after dead horse found in downtown Atlanta
~~~
If questions remain, then it sounds like they are beating a dead horse.
The retarded “Don’t Touch Me” boomer geezer line dancers may have mistook it for a Tesla or an American presidential candidate.
Here for Godfather references and beating jokes …
“As for why the owner was riding the horse downtown”
Maybe he was tired of looking/paying for a parking spot.
Is it illegal to ride a horse in downtown Atlanta?
If not, why does it matter why the owner was riding it?
Just reading the headline I had to ask if RFK Jr was in town.
That’s the first time I’ve seen horse and dead and Atlanta in the same sentence without it referring to a heroin overdose.
BEWARE! Instead of leaving just a Horse's head in the bed as a warning, they left the entire horse!
What sort of animal cruelty was performed?
Please give us details.
““He never told us why he was down here. We do know that he had just purchased the horse at an auction, and the Department of Agriculture knows that as well, about 10 days ago....”
I know I’m being captain obvious here but sounds like there’s a whole lot more to this.
Pretty much every city official in Atlanta is of color so I’m sure we’ll have an answer by COB today. 👌
Nothing is safe in Atlanta.
What’s not reported here is Stacey Abrams was the rider. The horse didn’t have a chance. Now you know the REST of the story
“Is it illegal to ride a horse in downtown Atlanta?
If not, why does it matter why the owner was riding it?”
Exactly the right perspective... I agree...
Poor horse. No one should carry that heavy a load.
