SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police say 23-year-old Natalieann Aguirre has been arrested in a suspected road rage shooting on March 24.
Authorities say during the incident, Aguirre shot at the victim on the highway while his 2-year-old granddaughter was in the back seat.
The victim, in his 60's, didn't want to go on camera, but admitted to having some regrets for his actions that led up to the shooting.
The victim says he was merging onto Highway 281 northbound from San Pedro Avenue when Aguirre was driving behind him.
"[The other vehicle] went around me and cut back in in front of me, bumper to bumper with the car in front, and less than a foot from my driver front fender. It made me mad, and for my personality, I totally lost it," the victim said.
The victim then says he honked, flipped off Aguirre, then drove up next to her.
"Rolled my window down and yelled, and slapped at her car, and drove away," the victim said.
According to the arrest affidavit, the victim slapped Aguirre's passenger side rear view mirror with his hand.
"The next thing I knew, she was on the shoulder on my right, with her window rolled down, waving a gun at me. It was a good sized [gun]. It left a hole like a .45 in my door, and made a pretty big pop that scared my toddler granddaughter that I was taking home."
The man says Aguirre tried to drive away, but eventually the man was able to get a photo of Aguirre and her license plate.
"I really felt stupid, because I had broken out of my own personality in general, and didn't turn the other cheek and move on," he said. "That situation potentially could have gotten my granddaughter killed or me, and it's pretty scary."
Police were able to find Aguirre, and during an interview, she admitted to the same details as the victim provided, but when questioned about the gun, she asked for an attorney.
The victim says he is thankful police arrested Aguirre, and hopes she's held accountable for putting his and his granddaughter's life in danger.
Police say Aguirre is facing a charge of deadly conduct, discharge firearm.
Bad grandpa
When driving in San Antonio, the ‘people’ passing you from the right, whether there’s a lane or not, whether you’re trying to merge onto the highway or not, whether or not you want to get into a collision, they have the right of way because they are holes. It’s a local unwritten law. They will hit you one way or another
Coming from NY where they can be jerks but they don’t want to ruin their cars, this has always been something hard for me to adjust to
Immigration status?
While she is serving what should be a lengthy prison sentence, she should have ample time to take some self control classes.
Wow, two people actually taking responsibility for their own actions!
That itself is newsworthy
The psychology of the hyperaggressive driver is what psychologists call, the punishing parent. You pull out in front of them, and they think, “You can’t do that to me! I’ll show you!” They initiate an encounter, possibly by aggressive tailgating or shouting and hand motions.
This happened to me a couple of times on a particular two-lane road with heavy traffic. In each case, I either pulled off the road or took the next right turn at best speed. In every case, they hit the gas and were quickly out of sight, probably in search of someone who wanted to engage with them.
When you run across and aggressive driver...DO NOT RESPOND. They’re looking for someone to engage with. You might “win” but win what? And, at what cost?
She’s not the one who said I lost it.
Don’t worry.I usually don’t read the articles either :)
Happened to me here in SA as well a few years ago. Outside Randolph AFB, a guy did something stupid and dangerous and I flipped him off. He then spent the next 15 miles trying to run me off the road. This was back when military members still had base stickers on our cars. I get off on Blanco Road at 410, he pulls in front of me and blocks my truck, gets out of his car (he’s a Staff Sergeant in uniform), sees the officer sticker on my windshield, jumps back in his car and drives off.
Road rage. What is it that sends clear thinking out the window when another car does something we don’t like? It’s harder to avoid than you think, as if it’s from the primal instincts of our cave man days. Maybe it is.
I don’t know why, but that kind of made me laugh a little!
Sometimes, it really does take two to tango.
Most times, it is better to resist that primal urge to confront, conquer and ‘destroy’ your aggressor.
The Road Rage Victim was probably apologizing to the cops and all who would listen, because he loves the privilege of driving around with his Granddaughter, and wants to put the Mother of that 2 year old at ease, so he can have fun with the child in the future.
Sometimes, Grandparents can make an error or cross a line of endangering their precious cargo (the Grandchild), then have the kid’s parent say ‘You could have gotten both of you killed. What were you thinking? Sorry, but you won’t be taking her out anymore.
At least not for a good while.”
I had a customer call me grandpa last night when I was working at a hardware store. I was bemoaning my arthritis and how I have gone totally electric for power tools. Ended up selling her a $400 electric chainsaw. $$$
It was the victim who said he totally lost it when she cut him off. But then he says later that he felt bad because it really wasn’t like him to not just let it go.
Pick a story and stick with it.
I asked somehow one day at work in conversation and female employee said that if someone makes her mad while she is driving, it is “game on!” and she will immediately go out of her way to f*ck up that persons days by driving crazy next to them.
every drivers ed class should teach this. Road rage is nothing to get involved with.
FYI, in conway s.c. a pick up truck purposely backed into a parked car, the passenger of the car got out and shot at the back of the truck hitting the drivers headrest.. the pickup truck driver got a 25k bond, the shooter got a 10k bond. Just crazy..
They are probably white or Mexican races.
Certainly not black.
It could have something to do with the fact that a car is a deadly weapon. Threatening someone with a car isn’t much different than using a gun.
And also I think driving in separate cars makes it seem like a different tribe threatening your own tribal space. Just a guess, but there is just something primal or instinctive about the impulse to attack back when encroached upon too closely.
I usually am short tempered while driving and or in parking lots. I am working on that, and having much success.
Example, the other day I was waiting for an older lady to move her car from a parking space at the grocery. As is peoples habits, they take their sweet time. I pulled to the right with my blinker on, giving them plenty of room. An old lady, somewhere between 70-80 pulls around me on the left and puts on her blinker for the same spot. Cars started backing up behind me. The anger growing from them and of course me. Instead of causing a problem, I pulled up a bit, made eye contact with the old hag, and SHE FLIPPED ME OFF. I laughed at her in an obviously mocking way, and drove on. Sitting and holding up others while waiting, drives me nuts when I am behind them. So in my new manner, I decided to just not engage.
People are plain nuts, add alcohol or gasoline, and it is the spark plug.
