A previously released classified document from 1954 is making the rounds again on the internet after its release years ago. The document claims Adolf Hitler survived World War II and was living in South America.
The document was the CIA’s response to the allegations that Hitler was living in Colombia and had been for several years.

If you read this article, it concludes to be a hoax, an example of postwar Soviet propaganda sowing confusion into allied intelligence.
There was pretty good evidence he made it out on a submarine and went to South America. The search for Hitler showed lots of evidence of a large Nazi underground in Brazil and Argentina.

There’s a more interesting (and IMO, persuasive) theory that Martin Bormann, of all people, was a Soviet spy, and lived for several years after the war in the USSR. When he died, they secretly buried him in West Berlin to try to make it look like he died in May 1945. Except that the dirt he was buried in is wrong for Berlin, and the skull seems to have dental work done after 1945 ... hmmm.
You cannot imagine Hitler living quietly in Spain or Latin America after 12 years of leading Germany.
When my father’s unit rolled into Berlin his body was still smoldering.
I don’t think he escaped that.
