President Donald Trump announced plans to chop down a tree that was said to have been planted by former President Andrew Jackson.
In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump said that he was working with "the wonderful people at the National Park Service" to make "tremendous enhancements to the White House, thereby preserving and protecting History!"
"One of the interesting dilemmas is a tree planted many years ago by the Legendary President and General, Andrew Jackson," Trump described. "It is a Southern Magnolia, that came from his home, The Hermitage, in Tennessee. That’s the good news!"
"The bad news is that everything must come to an end, and this tree is in terrible condition, a very dangerous safety hazard, at the White House Entrance, no less, and must now be removed," he continued.
The historic tree will be chopped down in coming days, and Trump wrote that it will be replaced "by another, very beautiful tree."
"The Historic wood from the tree will be preserved by the White House Staff, and may be used for other high and noble purposes!!!" the president added.
Jackson, who served as president from 1829 to 1837, reportedly planted two magnolia trees near the White House in honor of his wife Rachel, who died in 1828. But according to the National Park Service's (NPS) website, the trees' connection to Old Hickory is debatable.
"Historical photographic documentation shows that magnolias first appeared at this location near the South Portico in the 1860s, still the trees are attributed to President Jackson," the agency explained.
"In 2006, the trees were designated as Witness Trees by the National Park Service, having borne witness to many ‘significant historic and cultural events,’" the NPS described. "The base of the trees also took the brunt of a Cessna airplane crash...

My first thought on this was that it was DJT trolling the left...make them choose between removing a vestige of AJ, and killing a tree.
Legendary?
So likely Clinton or whomever was in office in 94 should have had it removed but instead just trimmed it up, irresponsibly kicking the weak tree down the road for someone else to deal with, instead of doing a full job at time of incident.
I saw what you did there
You might as well add that President Jackson (D) was responsible for the ethnic cleansing of all native-Americans east of the Mississippi.
Chopped down, or chain sawed down? It would be fitting to use an axe, like it would have been done back then. But that's just how I think! 🥴
That tree has seen better days. Clone a branch, cut it down and replant.
Andrew Jackson is Trump’s favorite President (he destroyed the Central Bank). I’m sure he would have preferred the history to live on...perhaps it will in the form of a piece of furniture made from it.
That really is an excellent point. Our troll in chief is certainly putting the libs in a vexing position.
I would enjoy that immensely.
US would look like Mexico if he didn’t.
Not saying it was right.
News alert for Fox - trees don't live forever.
Yes and the liberals turn back to it a say oh look a bird.
Drivelous clap trap
The ethnic cleansing was actually the result of the various tribes continuing war on the westward migration of America.
The “Indians” were unable to control the warrior criminals who insisted on killing Americans.
Witness trees are a big deal in historic preservation circles, but witness trees eventually die, no matter how sentimentally attached to them we get. The first question is how to use the salvaged wood. The second is whether to replant.
Andrew Jacksons statue was removed where I live to “prevent” blacks from having their feelings hurt. Suddenly the tree is important?! Don’t these people ever feel embarrassed of their stupidity and hypocrisy.
“The Historic wood from the tree will be preserved by the White House Staff, and may be used for other high and noble purposes!!!”
...smart.
“What was good about Andrew Jackson again? (Democrat) ?”
Jackson, a foe of Banking, got rid of the Second National Bank. It took him eight years to do it, but to me, it was his greatest accomplishment.
The Jackson Magnolia lives on at the Richard Nixion Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, Calif. A cutting from the original tree was planted at in the library’s garden and has fully grown.
Don’t ask a Cherokee about Andrew Jackson—he imposed the Trail of Tears. In the dead of winter.
