My last trip to a theater was for "Top Gun: Maverick". When I lived in San Diego, I was present when the very first F14 landed at NAS Miramar with the Secretary of the Navy in the RIO seat. I was with the Boy Scouts at the time. After I got married, I purchased a house in Mira Mesa. Just about 1 mile north of the centerline of the Miramar runway. Watching the F14 training was fun and the annual Blue Angels show flew right over my house for many of the formations.
When the Navy left Miramar for Lemoore, the Marines returned. MCAS Miramar with F-18 and helicopters. Much noisier than the F14s. During the first few weeks the helicopters had some unintended landings in the residential areas north of Miramar.
I can't claim to be a huge movie fan. I watch 2 or 3 a year at home.

“Excellent insight. I couldn’t agree more.”
I wish I could claim it as my own.
I ran across it in an article on what could be responsible for current movies being un-memorable and uninteresting.
Like so many other changes in American life it’s due to the financial tide of global trade and global finance.
Why spend money making a film that will appeal mostly to Americans?
Your bigger audience is outside the country. So make some airheaded, forgettable piece of trash that will earn you bigger bucks everywhere else.

That poster reminds me of my introduction to South Park (or the Simpsons). The theme of the episode was Santa Claus fighting Jesus over ownership of Christmas.

Why young men love the old school masculinity of James Bond and The Godfather over modern Hollywood.Um, because we aren’t men pretending to be women? Because we aren’t man-bun sporting cucks? Because we haven’t been drinking soy milk for the past 20 years?

This thread makes me feel ancient.
Even though I was born in the 1950s, I don’t consider any thing made after about 1940 to be an “old movie”.
Well, maybe that’s because so many films made between 1939 and about 1980 are ‘timeless’, they are so good, and many iconic moments. After 1980 such films are few and far between. IMHO, anyway.
To: grundle
Because they are good? A whole lot of the newer movies are not worth the electrons that made them.

Very nice selection. My five children all loved The Quiet Man. But they remember all the lines from Monty Python’s Quest for the Holy Grail.
But it’s got big teeth.

Amen and amen. I had forgotten how good that movie was. Especially how it showed how each marksmen brought the Winchester to the firing position.

because theyre real... now, we are bombarded with the white girls who approach black men... white men/boys are most likely dorks or gay. fathers are usually not even seen or losers. when its all said and done, the most honorable person in the movie is the black dude that the female star made the first move on...
what the hell is the attraction for “young men”? what the hell is the attraction for black females?? no wonder they are so full of hate...

Beast from 20 thousand Fathoms and 20 Million Miles to Earth!
That brings back some memories. Remember seeing 20 Million Miles to Earth as a kid and getting totally hooked on scifi for the rest of my life.

George Raft’s best movie was the Ladies Man. And I will fight you over that. (/s)
