WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court on Monday to halt a ruling ordering the rehiring of thousands of federal workers let go in mass firings aimed at dramatically downsizing the federal government.
The emergency appeal argues that the judge can’t force the executive branch to rehire more than 16,000 probationary employees. The California-based judge found the firings didn’t follow federal law, and he ordered reinstatement offers be sent as a lawsuit plays out.
The appeal also calls on the conservative-majority court to rein in the growing number of federal judges who have slowed President Donald Trump’s sweeping agenda.
“Only this Court can end the interbranch power grab,” the appeal stated.

If the Supreme Court decides that some little judge in some little district can basically pass a federal law for the entire nation by simply waving his little gavel, then I say we’re in brand new territory.
It won’t be a representative democracy anymore that’s for sure.
If I tried filing suit to say that my job would be made more difficult if the govt didn’t hire people to come sweep my floors, what do you think this CA judge would say to me?
If somebody’s job being more difficult if somebody else is fired is considered legitimate grounds/standing for a lawsuit, then there is no company in the nation that can ever fire anybody after this.
I still don’t understand why firing a probationary needs cause...
BTTT
Roberts is hiding under his bed.

Comply. Rehire them.
Start with them sending in a resume’. Then reassign everyone in the hiring department and shut down the hiring department.
EC
Maybe Trump should Stack The Supreme Court ,LOL
“Asks”? What about tells.
Many of these people were hired by Biden to infiltrate and obstruct the Trump administration. It’s disgusting how so many slow thinking news watchers hearts are bleeding for them. The U.S. Government isn’t a jobs program.
Wake up, SCOTUS! Time to start acting Supreme, and take leadership. Ignore these rhetorical ‘shots across the bow’ at the peril of losing more of your credibility. Your authority
is being openly challenged in courtrooms across the land.
The judge in question needs to have a meeting with one of Bondi’s staff and have the definition of “probationary” explained, along with a lecture on the designation and separation of powers.
Judges are there to follow the law, not make it.
I lose track of what suits are what. This judge talks about millions of plaintiffs. Did they all file suit? Is this a class-action lawsuit?
In one case it wasn’t the workers themselves who filed suit but instead the labor unions, claiming that if others are fired it means the people still there have to actually work, and NGO’s claiming they can’t get their work done if people are fired in the govt. (seems to me that if your ability to get anything done depends on scads of govt workers, then you are NOT a “non-governmental agency”.
But it seems to me that what these judges are doing would - if applied universally - would keep any business from being able to do any reductions in force.
Somebody should sue Disney and all the other companies who have downsized, using these same arguments, within the same courts that these cases were filed, and force these judges to put their money where their mouth is.
When I got hired by the DoD I was probationary for 12 months and that was per the HR department.
I’m sure the definition, whatever it is now, is documented by OPM. (office of personnel management).
“Roberts will say the Trump administration has no standing.”
General Malta represents both Malta and Epstein Island.
The Elected beloved Trump administration has no standing
at either ... or in the unelected, antiConstitutional
Maltese- and Italian-following SCOTUS.
I think Congress should pass a law saying that all fedgov employees have to pass a security clearance before they can be hired. Get rid of the Lois Lerners of the swamp and let in the DOGE folks - since, as the judges assert, it is so crucial that personally-identifying information not be misused.
Lots of hard-core perverts passed security clearances under Biden...
So, what is the meaning of probation? Normally, probational employees can be fired for any reason. So, what’s really going on here?
