Pentagon may use polygraph tests to investigate leaks involving national security

March 22 (UPI) -- The Pentagon is investigating leaks of national security information, including using polygraph tests, one day after media reports about an upcoming briefing with White House senior adviser Elon Musk.

Joe Kasper, the Defense Department's chief of staff, on Friday issued a memo about the "recent unauthorized disclosures of national security information involving sensitive communications with principals within the Office of the Secretary of Defense demand immediate and thorough investigation."

He said the "use of polygraphs in the execution of this investigation will be in accordance with applicable law and policy."

Polygraph tests are typically not admissible in court proceedings, but they are used by federal law enforcement agencies and for national security clearances.

In a 1999 report, the Pentagon said it was expanding a program to use polygraphs on military, defense personnel and contractors "if classified information they had access to has been leaked."

"We believe this will serve as a deterrent to individuals who may be considering leaking classified information" the report concluded.

The investigation will culminate in a report to the agency.

“””The investigation will culminate in a report to the agency.”””

It should end in a hanging at high noon.

All they have to do is modify the counterintelligence Test for Espionage and Sabotage (TES) polygraph examination, and they can clean the entire workforce.

But they don’t have near enough polygraphers, so they will need a contract solution to bring an army of polygraphers in.

Didn’t she already catch two people using the polygraph? Yet here they are, still leaking.

Why are they so breathlessly reporting this? I served with the DIA from 1984-2022. I have had more polygraphs than dog has fleas. 9 deployments, and one assignment in Ebola infested West AFrica. I know a bit about counter intel and the junk they have been spreading lately.

Good Lord. It makes me want to contact some of my colleagues and see if they need me for DOGE. I can do the Office Space interrogation real well, and I know ALL the weasel words for not doing a real job. Everybody on the third floor should look the heck out.

Our systems have degenerated , especially since the Obama Administration took control .

There is a serious lack of responsibly and discipline when it comes to security

A lot of the stuff that is openly disclosed would have landed people in jail 30 years ago

Safer than waterboarding, but probably not as accurate. ;-)

Do it. We're not looking to arrest anyone here...

Gee, what a great idea. [SMH]

DH was contractor for DoD and was polygraphed often. You’d think that every employee in the Pentagon would be tested every couple of years.

I think the NYT story about Elon getting briefed on china’s war planes was a setup to identify left over Biden traitors. Wait and see if a couple of Obama generals or senior GS civilian pukes are fired. Remember Trump pulled off a couple of setups like this in his first term.

Polygraphs are useless, these investigations need some old-fashioned foot work and real evidence gathering so the perps can be prosecuted. I don’t believe for a second that any of this can’t be done.

You know who passes polygraphs 100%: psychopaths, people with no morals or ethics, Moslems for whom lying to the Infidel is a point of honor, people who have zero respect for anything or anyone, i.e. your average DeepState Progressive.

Polygraphs are useless,

Polygraphs are very useful, when dealing with the not inconsiderable portion of the population who, when told that the polygraph examiner detects deception, suddenly lose their nerve, and confess to everything. I have certainly seen that, more than once.

But otherwise... As you say, a lot of people can pass a polygraph, while lying, and failure of of polygraph is at most an indicator, and not a particularly strong one, on its own, of lying.
