On the 11th anniversary of Russia's annexation of Crimea via an "illegitimate referendum," Türkiye said it does not recognize the "de facto situation in Crimea," expressing its support to Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

"We reiterate that Türkiye does not recognize the de facto situation in Crimea, which constitutes a violation of international law, and that we support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

"We will continue to closely monitor developments in Crimea, particularly the situation of the Crimean Tatar Turks, the indigenous people of the peninsula, and we will keep them on the agenda of the international community."

Perhaps just early negotiation positioning.

If Russia can demand accession of oblasts that they don’t completely control, then Turkey can demand realignment of territories that Russia currently controls.

Türkiye instead of Turkey? Well, okay. Then why not spell Ukraine as Україна and Russia as Россия?

Just curious.

🤔

Tell your Turkey, no one cares.

If the headline use Turkey people would be confused as to whether they were talking about the country or Joe Biden.

Turkey could just keep the Bosphorus closed to Russian shipping forever. That would probably make someone care.

I think marcus rarely reads responses. He just posts his propaganda, er, news as a hit and run :)

Though he did post an article about the houthi ties to iran and for the first time in a while, I agreed with a thread of his :)

I never said Putin was an angel. He’s not.

I said he was provoked by NATO/NEOCONs/dems to fight back,.

Speaking of indigenous people, Turkeys, give back Anatolia to its indigenous Greeks!

Go back to turkmenistan from which you launched your settler colonialist islamist wars of conquest and genocide.

Tell Putin to get out of the way of President Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize and agree to his ceasefire deal.

Does it really matter what they think?

They control more than half the Black Sea coast, and access of warships via the Bosporus and Dardanelles, so if they want to boost their status with the non-US NATO powers and use their assets to help Ukraine and Western Europe to fight Russia in Crimea, then, yes, it matters a lot.

No.... they cannot. Not by treaty, and not by force without a very big problem.

Russia would make Turkey care, intensely.
