Schumer at center of civil war after funding fiasco
The Hill ^ | 3/15/25 | Mike Lillis, Al Weaver

Democrats on Capitol Hill are waging an internal war against one of their own after the GOP successfully muscled through the Senate a partisan spending bill that drew the votes of Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.), eight other Democrats and an independent.

The clash is pitting most of the party — including virtually every House Democrat — against Schumer, who infuriated members of his party on and off of Capitol Hill by saying Thursday night he would back the measure.

The differences over strategy badly split House and Senate Democrats.

House Democrats engaged in an active pressure campaign to convince Senate Democrats to vote against the bill, before and after Schumer’s announcement. A number of prospective Democratic presidential candidates, including Govs. Gavin Newsom of California and JB Pritzker of Illinois, also urged Democrats to oppose the bill.

The fissure shattered the message of unity Democrats were hoping to convey coming out of their annual strategy retreat this week.

It also eroded confidence within the party that Schumer will hold the line to block the Republicans’ agenda in the legislative fights to come — especially after a dozen House Democrats in tough districts voted against the measure Tuesday.

“[This] is a decision about trust and cooperation, because there will be a day where the Senate will need the House to move on something. And if there is an erosion of trust, and a breach of trust, such as what is being considered right now, it will make cooperation difficult,” said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), who some see as a future prim

Republicans want to shut down the government when Democrats are in power, and Democrats want to shut down the government when Republicans are in power.

Why can’t we all just agree to shut down the government permanently?

Dumbocrats, just give DOJ enough dirt on him to get him into prison and then an empty seat is in the Senate.

I hope they treat him like an Apostate with all that goes with it from a Muslim perspective, because after all, they are quite sympathetic to Hamas in the Democrat Party.

Having watched Chucky for years, I’ve always seen how clever he is politically. Not that I agree with him. But he got to power by his political prowess, not his back yard bar-b-q skills.

That being said, I can not help but think his “yes” vote has an end run coming. Was it a set up?

Whoever replaces the Chuckster will be weaker than the weak tea which Schumer is.

Who will the queen maker Pelosi back, since it’s clear she’ll back a woman, Patty Murray or Amy Clarkbar?

Good idea.

Back to the stone age for everyone.

Anybody who wants to lead, should be 'stoned' to death.

yes it was a set up. in the past no matter which side was responsible for a shutdown the left was deft at blaming the right and their complicit media would make sure of who got the blame. well not anymore. most liberals believed sincerely that this would be the case AGAIN but chucky schumer saw the handwriting on the wall an knew the leftsiders were on the hook this time so he tried to limit the damage to his party while THEY can’t see how damaging this blame will be. just my 2

OR - let’s agree to get Fed.gov back to 3-4% of GDP, like it was prior to 1913

What’s the big deal about the bill? We’re spending too much money as it is. So why are the Democrats complaining?

The legislation would keep much of the federal funding levels from the Biden Administration in place, with some key changes.

It increases military spending by $6bn (£4.6bn), for items like border security, veterans healthcare, and military spending. But would cut non-defence funding by about $13bn.

Any concession to Trump and the pubs regardless of how minor is a betrayal of the highest order to them. They are blinded by their TDS rage.

Certainly no fan but at the end Chuck “read the room” better than anyone. Contrary to my thinking they were going to eat a shutdown. I never thought that would ever happen. But Chuck saw it and minimized the damage for the crazier members of his party.

He’s still a POS though.

Schumer doesn’t care what democrats think of him. He is protecting his own ass - priority number 1.

Sounds good. Spend all revenue on defense of the country, and no social programs whatsoever, and administrative costs.

But would the revenue be enough to keep our enemies from attacking us? The less we have, the easier it would be for our enemies to undo us.
