Does a Government Shutdown Play Right Into the Hands of D.O.G.E. ?

It's a realistic question: A shutdown means the executive branch can furlough all non-essential employees. But isn't that EXACTLY what DOGE is doing (among other audits).

If that were the case, shouldn't we be encouraging the DEMS to vote for a shutdown, then let it play itself out?

Or am I missing something?

They don't get paid though while they are furloughed. More Democrat posturing with this shutdown. If Republicans expect them to pay the price for the shutdown, I doubt that will happen. I know it won't happen with the press, but it may happen with citizens.

We shall see I guess. ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘

I put it right up there with college kids on spring break, later complaining about student loans. You can’t make people any more stupid in America. Really.

Is past shutdowns, Federal employees were always retroactively paid for off times. Probably not this time.

Yup. Lock the doors now and permanently after personnel departures to prevent shredding and wiping computers.

Once the government shutdown is resolved federal employees are usually paid for their time off due to the shutdown, thus no money is saved by the shutdown.

Federal employees don’t get paid during a shutdown.

Correct—but traditionally in previous shutdowns they were paid retroactively after the shutdown.

Hopefully President Trump will choose not to do it this time (if there is a shutdown).

Aye, just because it was done one way in the past, there may be discretionary or negotiable aspects that can be bent to our advantage this time around. At least a partial pay cut during furlough for example. Paying people for doing nothing doesn’t make sense, especially given their elevated salaries in the first place.
