Nothing like getting harassed by the county
03/12/2025 | Me

Posted on 03/12/2025 11:34:57 AM PDT by Kevin in California

I just recently got notified by the tax collector telling me I'm delinquent on my property taxes in 2022 & 2023. First of all, I have the receipts (debit and cleared checks) that I did pay my property taxes. Had to order them from my bank as their online banking only goes back 18 months for downloading docs. When I receive them, my brother ( he co-owned the home) is gonna head down to the county office and stick these docs in their faces. The funny thing about this is never in 2022, 2023, or 2024 did I get notification that I was so-called delinquent. It was only 2 weeks ago that they notified me of this BS. Also, I sold my home this past September and NOT one issue with escrow.

Incompetence on display.

And I’m sure the government employees behind this are sharp as a tack which is why Pres. Trump is wrong about cutting the government work force ... riiiiiiiight!

Counties don’t tell you when you are delinquent because they make more money that way. They have auctions and people compete to pay your taxes and the county pays them interest. If you don’t pay for 3 years (in my state) you can lose the property to whoever has paid the taxes.

Trump isn’t cutting county employees or state employees, only federal employees.

You sound like a troublemaker, most likely a Domestic Terrorist. What did you do, register to vote as a Republican? Maybe your ISP leaked a news aggregator site you posted to.

IF these authorities could be charged with Fraud as it should be then you would see and end to this kind of nonsense. But they are above the law.

A good percentage of people will just pay which encourages the fraud to continue.

Progressive America on display. You don’t own your home. Its a partnership with bloated and corrupt government.

Been saying this for many years. You have no property rights and you own nothing. You are merely a caretaker for the state. For this privilege, you pay a monthly fee for a period of up to 30 years. Once this is paid, you still have an annual fee to keep in good standing as a caretaker for the state, in addition to fees and other taxes that may result if you choose to improve the state's property.

At any point during or after that 30 years, you can sell off your privilege of being a caretaker for the state and, hopefully, make a small profit for your troubles over the years. Should you pass away while in active caretaker status, your children have the right to either continue or discontinue as caretakers, however, if they choose to continue, they will be subject to membership fees in the amount of half of the value of the state's property, at minimum. This fee, however, is often higher.

Being a caretaker for the state is not for the feint of heart, however many folks see this form of peaceful slavery as preferential to the thrills & risks inherent with the animated contest of true freedom.

I've made several investments in these. Never to the point of taking over a property (I don't want that for me, or the state's caretaker), but the interest payments make for spending $$$.

I bought a place here in VA almost 2 years ago. About 6 months ago I realized I hadn't gotten a tax notice.
I called the County property tax folks and asked about it. They said they had sent notice but the tax was delinquent.
I asked where they sent the notice and they gave me an address in Kentucky. I don't know anyone in KY.
I then gave them the correct address. They dropped the late fee and all's good.
Still don't know where the other address came from. Maybe the realtor trying a fast one.

No. The lien holder can file for public auction with the property going to the highest bidder.

I’m still fighting the IRS saying I owed $6500 for unfiled taxes despite having the receipts and all the records. In the meantime. I was advised by my accountant to pay it and fight it later. Don’t ever expect to get the money back but it can keep you out of jail while some bureaucrat circle files your case. At best you can roll it over to another year’s taxes.

I actually used to get threatening call from “Maricopa county” to pay the taxes. It sounder very scary.
The problem, Maricopa county does not directly tax anybody. They get they money from share of state or city property taxes.
Obvious fraud!

Happened to a friend. Credit card statement indicated a payment was made. The wrong account was being credited with a payment. That was the problem. Either operator error or my friend. The issue was completely resolved after error.was discovered.
I hope your issue works out.

Santa Clara County? I’ll bet you went to your doctor’s office recently and refused to mask up. They reported you to the Assessor’s office as trouble maker and here you are! They have six ways from Sunday...

(I refused to mask up at Sutter Health in Palo Alto last week. The Director of the facility was called and told me “It’s a REQUIREMENT. No mask, no see doctor. And pull it over your nose, too!). FIVE YEARS of this crap!
