The center-right Demokraatit Party won the most votes in Greenland’s parliamentary elections, a surprise result as the territory went to the polls in the shadow of President Donald Trump’s stated goal of taking control of the island one way or another.
Both Demokraatit — the Democrats — and the second place party, Naleraq — “Point of Orientation” — favor independence from Denmark, but they have differences on the pace of change.
Demokraatit’s upset victory over parties that have governed the territory for years indicates that many in Greenland care just as much about healthcare, education, cultural heritage and other social policies.
The unanticipated results came after huge crowds streamed into the polling station in the capital, Nuuk, throughout the day, warmed by sunny skies.
Exhausted voting officials closed the polls well after the planned 8 p.m. local time on Tuesday to make sure everyone in line got a chance to cast their ballot.
Prime Minister Mute Bourup Egede in February called elections a bit early, saying the country needed to be united during a “serious time” that is unlike anything Greenland has ever experienced.
Trump has been outspoken about his desire to control Greenland, telling a joint session of Congress last week that he thought the US was going to get it “one way or the other.”
Greenland, a self-governing region of Denmark, straddles strategic air and sea routes in the North Atlantic and has rich deposits of the rare earth minerals needed to make everything from mobile phones to renewable energy technology.

Let the negotiations begin.
I foresee a substantial US Navy Base in Greenland with suitable facilities to house and supply a US Marine expeditionary force , created to resupply US aircraft carriers and US nuclear submarines.Iceland will be on board as well.
Nuuk is about to get a YUGE airport, Aviation fuel depot, and hanger facility first.
(You never know, maybe FReeper Allegra will be workin' on it.)
NUUK:
So there!
They made a poll recently. Only 9% wanted to be Americans. It is not a popular proposal there right now.
I read somewhere that America had indeed bought this large arctic island fro Denmark, but that it was never ratified.
To clarify: America allegedly bought it from Denmark back in the nineteenth century. Incidentally around the same time as Canada as we know it was founded.
It may not be a popular proposal right now. But if the United States decided to pump in an extra hundred thousand dollars per family and a free snowmobile and a rifle. He will be talking to a group of people outside of the capital. And for the capital Offshore drilling and casinos with banking. Remember negotiation start at no.
“ I read somewhere that America had indeed bought this large arctic island fro Denmark, but that it was never ratified.”
WWII US took over Greenland to protect it from Nazi occupation.
Letting Danish or Finns administer it has been a courtesy.
Shortly before i arrived at my duty station in the army in 1993, a squad from the platoon i would wind up in, went to greenland for a week to blow up an outdated radar tower or something like that.
It was an officer, some civilian liason dude to coordinate with greenland govt if needed, an NCO, and 4 enlisted guys to do the work with the explosives
They had a great time because they always talked about the cool little operation as time went on. If i recall, they were able to do some hardcore fishing with the locals.
Start shipping the 42% of government employees who intend to “resist” there at a special “ice station zebra” tent city.
Mission: snipe hunt

English translation of headline...
“Demokratiit wins landslide victory in Greenland elections
Demokratiit’s support tripled since the last election. When the vote count was completed, the party was in first place with around 30 percent. Naleraq is the second largest. Siumut, one of the ruling parties, suffered its worst performance since its inception.”
Just for the record, the arctic snipe is claustrophobic and is almost impossible to catch in the bag.
Then the pot needs to be sweetened.
1. American citizenship for Greenlanders is not needed. Much can be accomplished without it, such as more independence from woke nations.
2. And why would any sane Greenlander want to submit to the possibility of rule by the likes of Joe Biden?
I don’t blame them. Why would an independent country want to be taken over by another country.
Denmark will have the last word.
