Ontario Premier Doug Ford is imposing a 25% surcharge on electricity the province supplies to three U.S. states. Ford announced the higher costs to be paid by Americans in Michigan, Minnesota, and New York which buy Canadian power. Ontario might even turn it off.
Ford said average electricity customers in those states can expect their utility bills to go up an average of $100 per month ($69 US) until the trade war with the U.S. comes to an end.
Ford promised in a series of media appearances and a press release he wouldn't hesitate to increase the surcharge or get even tougher if things don't change rapidly. "Let me be clear, I will not hesitate to increase this charge. If necessary, if the United States escalates, I will not hesitate to shut the electricity off completely. Believe me when I say I do not want to do this."

I say we threaten to cut off the supply of laxatives to Ontario so that Doug Ford can get even more full of crap.
This will backfire spectacularly.
“Canada will be the UK sooner than later.”

Yes, seems to be where they’re heading.
I guess they will build massive warehouses to store the withheld watts
Shut it off, but if you do it will be PERMANANT.
Thanks! The previous protest was accomplished by throwing the stainless steel knives and forks to stick into the acoustical tile ceiling of the lunch room about 25 feet up resulting in no silverware and frequent drops of a knife or fork from 25 feet onto a table food tray or someone’s head.
We thought the lunch dumping this was better. It was quite a scene to see those steam table pans coming out of the kitchen and being taken right outside to the dumpsters. Literally, 100 pans.
“Maybe then all these Canadians that snowbird down here (Az, TX, Fla) can go back.”

They should winter over in Cuba where they can have sunshine and socialism.
Its just a cost factor. And likely not much of one anyway. Just that the electric delivery people will have to find another supplier.
There are six perfectly fine coal fired plants in Ct, known as the sooty six, that could be fired up. Better than paying the Danegeld to the drug addled Ontario scumbag Ford.
Put down the crack pipe Doug.
I live in NYS.
Note to Canada’s Deep State and speaking for myself: Make my day.
I was born & raised in Maine, and lived a good chunk of my life here.
Years ago, it was filled with the most indepedent (self sufficient) minded people in the country.
It’s been overtaken by radicals, non-Americans who live off the dole and it now practicaly non liveable.
The libs shut down the Nuclear power plant we had, have tried to get rid of hydro dams, and pushed through a massive power line that brings power mostly to Massachusetts from Ontario. They also pushed useless wind & solar that have destroyed the beautiful land we have, and our rates have doubled because all of that garbage is “publicly funded”.
The idiot governor (General Mills) also just out of the blue levied a 0.5% tax for “12 weeks leave”, which I certainly never “enjoyed”, on top of the already through the roof taxes & fees you pay if you happen to have a decent job, of course in order to pay for stuff for illegal immigrants, or people who just don’t want to work.
The cherry on top is that even though Mills and her cronies pushed & implemented all that ridiculousness, she/they will scream that it’s all Trump’s fault.
Actual Mainers are sick of this crap, but we literally have been taken over by idiots & tyrants.
That is what I am thinking - there are no other customers for Canada. If they raise the price then those border states will buy electricity elsewhere, leaving them with high tariffs and no exports... which means no revenue.
This may inadvertently expose the folly in New York closing nuclear power plants and replacing it with imported electricity. While there is currently a project to bring in hydro from Quebec to NY (Champlaign-Hudson Power Express), I would imagine some NY electricity is exported from Ontario.
No, taking Canada and sending the vermin back to the UK would be better. It would be snow Mexicans vs mudslides.

From the above...
Quick Facts
New York law requires the state to generate 70% of its electricity from renewable resources by 2030. In 2023, New York ranked third among the states for generating the most electricity from renewables.
Nuclear power accounted for almost 22% of New York’s utility-scale net generation in 2023, down from 34% in 2019 after the Indian Point nuclear power plant, one of the state’s four nuclear power plants, shut down.
In 2023, New York was the third-largest producer of hydropower in the nation, after Washington and California.
New York consumes less total energy per capita than all but one other state, Rhode Island. However, New York relies on energy supplies from other states and Canada to meet more than four-fifths of its total energy needs.
New York ranked among the five states in 2022 with the lowest per capita energy-related carbon dioxide emissions.

Be sure to check out the chart at the link to see how much we get from coal.
Shutting off power would be akin to an act of war, IMO. Are they really THAT crazy ?
However, New York relies on energy supplies from other states and Canada to meet more than four-fifths of its total energy needs.
Albany has done this on purpose. Who is getting rich off of beggaring our state...
Nor crazy.
EVIL.
Doug “The Coked-Up Fraud” Ford is penalizing the blue states.
Beautiful!
A shame about your druggie brother, Doug! :)
The (former) AES Somerset plant. Went live in 1982. Essentially shutdown in 2017. One of the cleanest coal burning plants in NY.
Now gone. About 150 jobs gone.
Have some friend who still live in the area. Very sad.
