The track star seen hitting her opponent in the head with a baton in a shocking incident has remarkably claimed it was an accident.
The indoor track championships in Virginia were marred when Alaila Everett was seen striking Kaelen Tucker during the 4x200m relay event of the VSHL Class 3 State Indoor Championships.
Tucker was running the second leg of the relay for Lynchburg's Brookville High School when she passed Tucker of I.C. Norcom High School on the outside.
Everett, who claimed she has since been on the receiving end of death threats and racial slurs, broke down in tears as she gave her version of events on the viral incident.
She told Wavy.com: 'I know my intentions and I would never hit someone on purpose.'
She added: 'After a couple times of hitting her, my baton got stuck behind her back like this, and it rolled up her back. I lost my balance and, when I pumped my arms again, she got hit.'
Everett insisted there is more to her - and the incident - than first appears in the short clip. 'They are assuming my character, calling me ghetto and racial slurs, death threats,' she said. 'All of this off of a nine-second video.'
She added: 'Everybody has feelings, so you’re physically hurt, but you’re not thinking of my mental (health).
Gasps were heard inside the Liberty Indoor Track Complex as Tucker stumbled and then fell to the ground.

Who ya gonna believe, me or your lyin’ eyes?
LOL. The baton just got stuck and then next thing I knew, the baton was just hitting her in the head!
Well, she has accomplished at least part of what she was hoping for with at least some people. Benefit of doubt.
I don’t need a high-res video to be sure she did this on purpose. I already am sure and anything else just confuses the facts.
Yo honor I was just standing on the corner trimming my fingernails when the dude came running up and ran into my knife. 17 times!

Wait. What? Is she talking about bumping into the victim, or about striking her with the baton?
Either way, once could be an accident. More than once, not an accident.
That’s her story and she’s sticking to it.
Looks to me like it was the first swing that struck the other runner and then she kept swinging it to make it look like an accident.
If you have ever run a relay, hitting another runner with the baton is no accident.
I was a college sports photographer for 15 years. I would shoot track meets all spring and winter.
This stuff happens quite often. After watching the video, i tend to believe the girl with the baton.
Usually, this stuff results in the two folks talking after the race and it’s all good.
People who aren’t around these sports tend to see things that aren’t there. This video isn’t “shocking” at all.
They don’t trim their finger claws.
There’s only one answer...ban batons. They clearly do not want to be a part of a civil, law abiding society. I for one am tired of watching batons attack innocent people and ruin their lives and careers.
She’s a poor sport and a really bad liar on top of it.
I have. And if you watch the video she draws it way back to make the hit. She wasn’t just trying to keep in stride. Clearly intentional.
For extra amusement they should have wild lions chasing them around the track.
Is she admitting that she hit the other runner "a couple times" BEFORE she clobbered her on the head?
What the hell kind of a race lets you hit a competitor multiple times, whether on the head or not?
Oh, no, hunny buns, we ARE thinking of your "mental" and the easy verdict is that you're a malignant child narcissist. You would have been better off doing a "Jusse Smollet" and claiming that two MAGA hat white guys put a noose around your neck and threatened your lynching if you didn't take the sister out.
Typical low to no impulse control.
A baton is hollow aluminum. For Alaila Everett to do that
kind of damage to her opponent, she had to have tried real hard.
No problem for Alaila Everett.....she was trained in the ghetto.
To attract larger crowds and more interest in the sport they should give all the runners whips.
