Gene Hackman may not have realized his wife, Betsy Arakawa Hackman, was dead during his final weeks due to his advanced Alzheimer’s, according to forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden.

The legendary actor died due to hypertensive atherosclerosis cardiovascular disease, with Alzheimer's disease as a significant contributing factor, New Mexico officials confirmed Friday.

In short, his unofficial caretaker (wife) was stricken by a rodent-related virus and died on the 11th which meant that the 95-year-old star had nobody to watch his meds, leading to his eventual death a week later.

Imagine all that fortress around him without an employed caretaker to watch Mr. Hackman’s health.

For about $1 per day you can have an elder care service call and check on you. That's a pittance well
spent, in this case for sure. It would have saved the dog and Gene, and maybe his wife too.

“WOULDN’T THE ROYALTIES GO TO HIS ESTATE???”

Of course. That’s why Quaid’s theory is so nuts. The studios still have to pay the money.

Today C-SPAN showed a program about Ellis Island from 1989 which was narrated by Gene Hackman.

I wonder if they selected it to show because of his recent death or if it was just a coincidence.

I’m sorry about your mom dying. I bet your dad is living the good life. All the widows checking up on him. When my folks lived in senior housing, Marilyn the neighbor would bring pastries for my dad. Once she came over wearing her nightgown asking my dad for help. My mom was sitting in the room. Shameless. My mom said that she could have him.

They were tired of writing checks for the royalties from his movies.

Are not the royalties part of his estate until the movies pass into public domain?

Of course. That’s why his theory is bonkers.

He had family that has been claiming they were very close. Very close? When your dad is 95 and you don’t call him for a week or two you may never get to speak to him again.

My guess is that Gene Hackman and his wife preferred privacy for three reasons: to minimize the risk of tabloid coverage; to prevent a rush of relatives to the home angling to secure or expand their inheritances; and to avoid having Hackman hustled off unwillingly into a nursing home as part of such maneuverings.

When we were having our home security system installed, they told us about an available component (that we didn’t get) that monitors movement in the home and “learns” what is typical.

If an anomaly is recognized, the system alerts the monitoring HQ and they’ll notify the people on the call list.

At one time, the system of an elderly woman who normally would sleep through the night recognized movement “wandering around” the house, which was not typical. The owners of the company happened to be on her call list as she was a friend of the family. They went there and the woman was confused and disoriented because of a UTI that put her in the hospital for two weeks.

I suppose that also would work to alert if movement is typical, and then there’s no movement. It’s intrusive, but could be a life saver for the elderly with no caregiver or family keeping tabs on them.

I suspect anything with Gene Hackman in it or narrating it will get views.
Prime had the French Connection 1 and 2 on it.
Along with The Conversation and a few other movies.
I am sure that many other people will watch one of his films like I did.

I was pretty confident from the beginning this was not a who done it.

Still some unanswered questions though...about what was wrong with the dog that required hospitalization, his wife dying suddenly of a rare rodent borne virus just after bringing the doghome, and the bodies being discovered a week or so later by (my understanding) a pest exterminator.
