Well, well, well—HBO has done it again. Just when Harry Potter fans were cautiously optimistic (or at least resigned) about the upcoming TV reboot, Deadline dropped the bombshell that British actor Paapa Essiedu is reportedly set to play Professor Severus Snape, the eternally bitter, greasy-haired potions master. And let’s just say, the internet is not handling it well.
While Essiedu is widely respected for his performances in I May Destroy You and The Lazarus Project, many fans are losing their minds over the fact that Snape, canonically described as “sallow-skinned” and deathly pale, will now be played by a Black man. Others, however, are gleefully embracing the chaos.

I would never watch it anyway no matter what color
A Big Ol Texan should play the part.
We wuz Slytherin!
Kathleen Kennedy strikes again. Put a lesbian chick in it, make it lame.
Matt Damon’s next big role is Shaka, King of the Zulus.
No? That would be ridiculous?
This is where all the pointless outrage is just so tired and pointless. SO? People used to be fine with surfer-blonde types getting cast in Biblical dramas set in the Middle East.
So what is the problem here? It’s not like it’s gender-dysmorphing, plus it’s a FANTASY story.
*eyeroll*
I’ve never read a single Harry Potter book and could not get into the films for the life of me, BUT I do admire JK Rowling as a voice of social conscience.
…and they’ll have Hermoine in a burka….
They just went from creating the potentially biggest TV show in decades to...blah.
They had one job...
Go woke Go broke. The liberal backers apparently have money to burn. The sad thing is that liberals like Communists don’t learn from experience.
They can’t help themselves. You vill konform!!!! Order else!!!
The job is never the job. The job is the revolution.
The problem is it’s not benign. It’s always one way and one way only.
It’s not Snape. It’s SNIPES.
They completely destroyed the Dr. Who series. Haven’t watched since they put ideology ahead of good characters. Guess Harry Potter is the next to decide preaching leftist religion is more important than good storytelling.
I gave up on BritBox. Surfing the titles a while back the majority of which were ridiculously woke shows starring blacks, Muslims, Indians and women. There was next to nothing that could be called Anglophile. I’ve been watching British shows since I was a teenager but it’s jarring to see such diversity in British TV. Just doesn’t seem English to me. Now if I bother watching anything it’s old American stuff from the 40s, 50s and 60s. So I’m watching Colt 45 or some damn thing the other night and a commercial for BritBox comes on…and every face is see in the line of different shows they promo is lily white. How odd that seemed. I just shook my head.
England has done some horrible casting in their historical dramas. I refused to watch the 2021 Anne Boleyn mini series, because they had black actress Jodie Turner-Smith playing Anne Boleyn, and Paapa Essiedu as her brother George. I just recently watched the second season of Wolf Hall. I didn’t realize until later in the series that they had black actress Sarah Priddy playing a character named Margery Seymour, who was supposed to be Queen Jane Seymour’s sister, who married Thomas Cromwell’s son Gregory in the program. Jane did have a sister named Margery, but she never married Gregory Cromwell. Another sister named Elizabeth Seymour who was a widow married Gregory Cromwell. I don’t understand why they had the wrong Seymour sister married to Cromwell’s son.
Just relax and don’t watch it. The Left loves these uproars. They serve the goal of destabilizing society so that it can be replaced with Communism.
A simple boycott that let’s the Left know you’re onto them will suffice.
I miss Alan Rickman; he was such a good actor!
