If Donald Trump wants a 51st state to the north, here’s how he can get one.
For weeks, President Donald Trump has said that Canada should be America’s 51st state. He has mocked Canada’s economic dependence on the United States. He has condemned Canadian tariffs and trade restrictions. He has scolded Canada’s free riding on American defense. He has knocked Canada’s porous borders and drug dens. He has accused Canada of colluding with hostile foreign powers and global institutions. He has trolled our prime minister.
It’s delightful. Many Canadians are enjoying the show.
Up here in the cold white north, Trump has set the cat among the pigeons. Canada’s chattering classes are wringing their hands and gnashing their teeth. He has challenged their sense of entitlement. He has exposed their patriotism of convenience and knee-jerk anti-Americanism. He has exposed their haughty righteousness. He has identified rot that Canadian leaders refuse to acknowledge.
Here is some friendly advice for the president. The 51st state will not be Canada. The Canadian political establishment, largely centered in Ontario and Quebec, will fight it tooth and nail. Their vested interests depend upon the existing federal order of things. Big fish in small ponds will steadfastly refuse to abandon the pond. Canada will not join the United States as a single unit.
But the country’s provinces are a different matter. Some parts of Canada might be persuaded, one or two at a time, to come stateside. If there is to be a 51st state from north of the border, the best bet is Alberta. Even better would be to adopt two provinces, Alberta and Newfoundland, to start.
Canada has always been an unlikely country. It looks huge on the map, but most of its people live in a ribbon from east to west

There’s only about 39 million people in Canada. Its quite under populated but I too have concerns about bringing a bunch of lefties on board. Not to mention they’ve let a trillion Muslims in so we’d get them too.
I won’t quibble too much about numbers, but I believe Canada has 41 million people. California has 39 million people. California has 52 reps in Congress. Imagine 52+ Canadians in the US House. You’d never see another Republican Speaker. And every single Republican president would always be impeaches once or twice. Perhaps not removed by the Senate, but the House would just impeach for the heck of it.
And to think at one time they thought about making The Philippines a state. Have you seen the population of The Philippines lately?
Green Bay Packers VS Edmonton ESKIMOES would be interesting to watch.
Western Washington and Oregon for Alberta.
CANADA is an integral part of the British Commonwealth unless the people of CANADA decide otherwise.
Which is why Canada went to war in 1939, while it took Pearl Harbor to get into it.
Of course Pierre Trudeau at the time was against it, he actually thought the Nazis winning would be better for French-Canadians.
Also, if the British Isles had fallen, the Government and the Royal Family would have relocated to Canada to continue the fight from there.
Perhaps the folks of Quebec might have other ideas?
Their secession efforts got shut down a few times—but the Canadian government used a combination of carrots and sticks to hold them in line.
It was like an abusive husband keeping the marriage intact with a combination of fancy gifts and occasional beat-downs.
I've been pushing this idea for years. Those teeny tiny itty bitty states should *NOT* have 2 Senators apiece. They have too much power. They greatly distort the Senate to the left. All those states should be combined into one normal sized state, and then they would only have two Senators to represent all their liberal @$$es.
Been saying that for years.
Make the Dakotas and the Carolinas and the Virginias Unite.
Honestly, we don’t want the rest of Canada. If Alberta wants to defect and become a State, I say let them. But the last thing we want is 40 million more leftist kooks.
