Daryl Hall says there will never be a reunion with his former musical partner John Oates.
Back in November 2023, Hall filed a lawsuit (as well as obtained a temporary restraining order) against Oates, trying to prevent him from selling his share of the Hall & Oates catalog to Primary Wave Music. Hall claimed that such a move would violate the terms of the duo's business agreement.
Now, over.a year after the litigation was made public, Hall is certain he and Oates will not be able mend their differences.
"That ship has gone to the bottom of the ocean," he recently told The Times. "I've had a lot of surprises in my life, disappointments, betrayals, so I'm kind of used to it."
These days, Hall works with various other people. His most recent album, 2024's D, was co-written and co-produced with Dave Stewart, with whom he's worked with on several projects. Hall's relationship with Stewart, he said, is different than the one he had with Oates: "It's more meaningful, a real collaborative relationship — and it's based on maturity."
John Oates Agrees: The Band Is Done
On the other side, Oates also appears to be just fine with Hall & Oates being over. He also has spent recent years collaborating with others, including Vince Gill, Jerry Douglas and more.
"As far as I'm concerned, I've moved on," Oates told Rolling Stone last year. "I feel like I have a new lease on my creative life."
Thank God. Their music sucked.
Although I do admire Daryl for his show Live From Daryl’s House”. Good stuff.
Well played.
Call the 1980’s for someone who cares.

Couldn’t agree more.
I always though Oats was just a bit of a Dip Shit.
After watching "Live From Daryl’s House", it was apparent that his super inflated ego would not allow anyone else in the spotlight.
Agreed. H&O music was terrible.
Garfunkel and Oates. His greatest contribution to music.
What did Oates do anyway?
It was like Wham! with George Michael, what did that other guy do?
Trying to give a rat’s ass. Can’t do.
lol… good question
I do like that show too. He’s had some good sessions with some great musicians. As far as Hall and Oats, they’re from my day and some of the tunes I didn’t mind, although they weren’t what I normally listened to. Theyre kind of a zeitgeist of the times. And their music is far better than anything I’ve heard since those days to be honest with you.
I a lot of their songs now that it isn’t overplayed as much as it was back then. So I disagree with you there.
That said, there is no reason for these guys to ever get back together. That time is done, it’s over, we’ve all aged, we’ve all moved on. I hate how 30-40 years down the road, people still get hounded about “getting the band back together”. Like they’re going to come out with fresh new content or something.
Some things are best left in the past. This is one of them.
I.Don’t.Care. They never made music worth listening to.
They did have a good band, though with G.E. Smith.
My favorite Live from Darryl’s House episode was the one with Cheap Trick. I’ve seen almost all of the episodes and that Cheap Trick show is by far the best. Killer music and great musicianship plus Robin Zander’s vocals are superb. Must see TV…
